An interesting thread, I definitely didn't read it all though so I may have missed a lot of information... I've been taking magnesium for a long time already, I started taking it some years ago because I heard it helps muscle twitches which I had at the time and then continued taking it because it was recommended for so many things. I take 375 mg of magnesium oxide. But I'm not sure that has had any effect on my anxiety. Although I haven't always been taking it regularly, there are periods when I forget and then just let it go for a few weeks. I have been taking it every day lately though. Maybe I should switch to some other kind of magnesium (though I've tried magnesium citrate and that made me practically nauseous).
I never did try amino acids and don't know much about them. I wouldn't know how to find a good product, I don't live in the US where I believe the ones mentioned in this thread are sold. But maybe I should do some searching.

I started taking magnesium some months ago. The soil is depleted of this vital nutrient due to over farming and fertilizing the soil. It gave me more energy, relaxed my anxiety, and helped relieve my wife of her migraines she has suffered through all her life! Thanks for sharing.

Wrote a longish post and pressed wrong button and poof, its gone......ugghhhh.
Anyway, what exactly is in CBD? CBD in itself does not state what is in it. Some manufacturers claim natural, but when analyzing a product, at times it is far from "Natural". An honest product should list the ingredients on it and the amounts in a serving. Tim Libertati's post, lists the amino acids, vitamins and minerals and amounts it the remedy. Also it is necessary to do one's homework if one is taking medications and find out for sure that there won't be any contradiction between the meds and natural product.
I am usually quite careful about naturopathic medications, ie/ Zoloft being the allopathic med and grapefruit juice (100%) natural remedy, for a number of things. Anyway I didn't pay attention and along with some other meds and landed in the hospital in a GCS 7 COMA! I almost died....thank God literally, that I camMy anxiety e out of it in about a week, but even after waking up, I got an pneumonia and danced between going back under and the land of the living....between Critical Care Unit and the ICU, then quite awhile in the Neuro Unit, unable to walk.
Anyway....I think I should start my own thread about my experience.....I feel the need to share....obviously lol. My anxiety has risen thru the roof since my "accident". Moral to the story: know what you are putting in your system. Be happy, be safe.

I renamed this post Amino Acids and Magnesium cured my Anxiety to clear up any confusion.
I suffered with anxiety for 12 years. My doctor told me I had GAD and panic attacks. I had all the usual symptoms, I don’t want to list them all here but if it was anxiety related I had it as you can imagine of suffering for 12 years. My doctor gave me the usual gamut of meds some worked while others didn’t the meds that worked didn’t work for long so it was on to the next pill. Therapy didn’t help either it was either listening to people talk about the same thing I was experiencing or it was my doctor just basically asking me how I felt and writing it all down and giving me ides on ways on how to deal with it. I got fed up with meds so I stopped taking them all together. I knew there had to be an answer to my conditions. So I went to the Internet to get answers. I ran across a page that talked about the Mind, Anxiety and Serotonin (published by a few Doctors and Researchers) and the use of Amino Acid for anxiety (I remembered learning about AAs in 9th grade they are the building blocks of proteins), which started to clue me in. So I started searching for Mental Health and Amino Acid I found another page that talked about Amino Acid and Magnesium Chloride, viola I found my answer to my anxiety problems, 5 minutes later I was at my local health food store buying some Amino Acid and Magnesium. When I started taking the Amino Acid and Magnesium it didn’t take long to be free from anxiety. I was better in two weeks and that’s been 11 months ago so I have been completely anxiety free for almost a year now. From what I have read most people have a Magnesium deficiency not to mention other vitamins and minerals deficiencies from which a whole host of problems can arise from. I took the Amino Acids and Magnesium once a day for 6 months now I take it once or twice a week. The particular Amino Acids that I take have most of the B vitamins in it, the B vitamins are needed for a few of the Amino Acids to Cross the Blood Brain Barrier and vica versa. There are two things that the brain uses as fuel for energy one is Sugar and the other is L Glutamine. Anyone interested in this Google mental health and Amino Acid and mental health and Magnesium. Amino Acids are absolutely essential for proper brain function without them the brain breaks down and the rest of the body as well, that’s why there is so much bodily pain associated with anxiety. Thanks for reading, if you would like info on the stuff that I take feel free to message me
This is also good for Panic Attacks Depression and PTSD

I bought the same liquid amino acids as you mentioned in your other comments. I will let you guys know how I feel as the weeks go.
I'm also taking
-Ashwaghanda (Just started)
-L Theanine (Just started)
-Chlorella (Just started)
-500/1000- Magnesium complex
- Stress B complex
-Vitamin D Complex
-C-1000
-One a day multivitamin
I'm mainly counting on the ashwaghanda + L theanine / aminos / clean diet and exercise as I'm on month 6 of severe anxiety and I've been using St. John's wort with no help and I've been using magnesium / b vitamins. The magnesium I know helps with chest pain and palpitations But all together in still very anxious. I'm hoping the new supplements help. This is my last attempt at trying to heal my anxiety naturally. If it doesn't work I'll have no choice but to go on meds :(
I'll keep you all informed.

Hi all, what do you think of this product? It contains alot of vitamins and also amino acids: sunwarrior.com/store/product/illumin8-vanilla-bean-1kg
On that link you wont find the amino acids profile but just the vitamins, so i asked the seller to send me the list. 1676
Did anyone try it? I hate taking synthetic supplements....
Can you suggest some good natural supplements containing natural amino acids and multi vitamins? Thanks

Hey guys,
Just found this forum and topic about the magnesium and 5-hpt and I have a few questions.im 18 now but when I was younger i had very bad anxiety and that was about 7 years ago. Well now with working and having a few issues at work it started back up and now it's starting to get the best of me and effects me especially in the morning. So I picked up some magnesium and 5-hpt up. Now how much should I be taking and should I be taking it everyday?

No I just went on those supplements just to see if would help me. I did no testing from my doctor. So far it's been a month no improvements so I'm probably just going to get on medications again. I had to do this 4 years ago.. And as soon as I felt better I started to workout / eat super healthy / get enough sleep and cut out all stimulants and I was able to get off the medications fast and live normally for 4 years until recently when my lifestyle fell off again and I started using stimulants (msg/coffee/soda)

I contracted encephalitis ( brain infection) from mono and then suffered a bout of severe depression. I handle stress, anxiety, and sleep completely different after that point. My question is would those traumatic events alter my brain? (neutrotransmitters, amino acids, chemicals for sleep, etc.) to the point of causing an imbalance and something that my body can't regain?
I'm in my 30's and that happened mid 20's Before the illnesses I slept fine, and handled stress fine (college credits to the max, working 2 jobs, volunteer work, working out) I feel completely different. I do still run, exercise, and do yoga to help but still not 100%. I'm just curious if this something to consider getting examined and/or start amino acids supplementation to see if anything changes.

I am beginning to think some of my anxiety is fueled by a lack of some essential supplements.
I remember 2001, I felt okay going to parties, weddings and other social events but now I find it very difficult stepping out of my house.
I have found exposure therapy useful and some other treatments but I need to get much better.
My anxiety makes no sense to meet because around 2003/2004 , it just started going haywire. I suspect it might be a chemical balance

I was going to try Bragg brand liquid aminos with coconut (not soy). I emailed them and they will start selling their coconut liquid aminos in stores in Nov or Dec 2016. I might just wait and then take them as liquid. I already get magnesium from taking my calcium -it has D, magnesium & zinc in it. That would be a dream come true if aminos helped with generalized anxiety disorder or any type of anxiety. Thank you.

I'm not a doctor but I heard that traumatic events can alter the brain, but that being said, I've heard that the brain can "regain" balance again, with certain therapies, not sure which, but there is hope. I've had environmental traumas happen which might have/possibly caused the probably already biological predisposition to anxiety/depression to go haywire. It may take me a long time to get over the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It would be nice if the liquid coconut aminos I'm going to add ....if they actually help. That would be wonderful. there is always hope. P.S. I do yoga too. I haven't lately but I have the muscle memory for it, it's been about 3 weeks since I last did it regularly, but you reminded me to get back into it; it helps so much. Thanks.

Hello I am quite new to this forum, having undergone panic attacks and anxiety only recently.
I am so glad I found this forum and this thread.
Here is my story. Around 3 weeks I started to develop my first anxiety related problems. I had panic attacks, at least 2 a day. I had general anxiety. I woke up in a panic every day and I never got a good night's rest. I had brain fog, lightheadedness, tingling in my fingers and toes, cold feat, a feeling of being strangled constantly. The only thing I didn't really have was fever, nausea or dizzyness. I went to my GP twice, the emergency room once, my Gastro once (I have Crohn's disease). They all ran tests and I came back normal. So of course, everyone thought "ANXIETY". I also developed some phobias. For some reason I was afraid of the dark, the time between dusk and evening set off panic attacks each night. No idea why. I also seemed to get panicky around children. I tried to exercise to relieve stress, my panic attacks got worse.
After finally admitting to myself I had mental illness, I came to this forum, I read as much as I could.
I started taking a multivitamin that contained ALL of the essential B-vitamins, Magnesium, Calcium, omega 3. I also started taking 5-HTP supplement which cotnains magnesium and calcium.
Let me tell you..my brain is buzzing right now. Not in an unusual anxious way..but in a tingling happy way (if that can be explained). I don't feel "Euphoric" only happy that my symptoms have abated 80% already. I have no tingling, strangulation, nervousness, cold feet and just a touch of lightheadedness.
I am 100% convinced a vitamin/Mineral shortage was the center of my problem. I AM WRITING THIS IN THE DARK. Only my laptop and a small lamp are providing light. This might seem ridiculous. But a week ago I could NOT have done this at all without being in a brightly lit room.
I feel fantastic!
I am wondering if I should press the issue by taking another Multivitamin tonight. But of course too many vitamins consumed quickly is not safe. I am convinced that it would only bring me up to normal levels but should it be a placebo effect, it could be a problem.
I should just take one multivitamin every day right?
Considering I have Crohn's disease, I have a feeling I was not absorbing the nutrients and my GP didn't really think this out.
Thank you everyone and thank you to the OP! I never would have thought of upping my vitamins to cure my anxiety!

I am not a doctor. But I have heard stories of people who have gone to naturopathic/holistic doctors or nutritionists (or maybe they are referred by their gastroenterologist? not sure). And they find out that they have mineral or vitamin deficiencies and they feel better after they take the minerals. I know some natural clinics around here give injections of one of the Vitamin Bs.
I have never done this. Actually I have not ever really followed up on nutritional/vitamin/mineral therapy for my anxiety. Even though I know that my anxiety triggers my gasterointestinal problems (microscopic colitis). I have been just trying to treat the brain part to stop it from constantly sending anxiety signals to my stomach. I think those treatments cost too much, or the tests to find out and treat more gastrointestinal problems cost too much (like, I think I might have small intestine bacterial overgrowth-SIBO, which some say can be treated with one year's round of taking a certain antibiotic), but the tests cost too much to figure that out. And.....i figure that I need to treat the brain to stop sending the signals to my intestines (which is still very difficult, I also get tingly arms and lightheadedness in addition to the pounding heartbeat and shallow breathing). So as long as I don't train the brain, my body is going to keep having symptoms. I hope your anxiety is only temporary, as it sounds like it just appeared recently, it might just be a temporary thing. for some of us it has been lifelong and anxiety can be a very difficult animal to "tame" - i have not been able to get rid of mine completely, i try to just keep it low.

Hi, I am new here and just found this thread.
It sounds like something I'd like to try. However, I am a bit hazy as to what exactly and how much to take. Could someone help me out and list it out here for me?
Just an fyi, I have had high anxiety (diagnosed) for the best part of last 4-5 years. It does run pretty high at times and definitely has an adverse effect on my daily life. Among the things affected the most is highway driving, it's been steadily deteriorating over the years. Which is really sad because I am a automotive enthusiast...Anyway, this is a story for another time I suppose.
Could someone please confirm what should I be buying and what amounts to take. I am not on any meds (except a bit of crestor for cholesterol). I weigh about 180 lb.
Thanks, much appreciated.

Magnesium has been a life saver for me, also L Theanine.
I take Magnesium at night. The higher grade the better. My naturopath had really good magnesium.
I also take CBD now. It is called Oil of Sunshine I believe. Once I got it I take it quite a bit. It doesn't have any pshycoactive affects which is really good for me. I need something that doesn't affect me head so I can go to work . I take it two times a day from Oil of Sunshine , then Magnesium at night, and sometimes L theanine. Life Savers.

Just a quick update - I did this regimen about 4 years ago. My anxiety was episodic and so intense, I felt like a completely different person. I could barely care for my infant daughter, and no doctor could give me an answer besides drugs - which I knew were not for me, since my anxiety began when I foolishly cold-turkeyed Abilify (prescribed for compulsive hair pulling; I didn't have anxiety before that and knew it had messed up my brain somehow).
Since posting last, I had one more bout of anxiety a couple years later (after stupidly smoking a ton of cigarettes at a wedding) and none outside of that. My life is normal now, and I haven't had to take the regimen in 2 years! :)
I still take magnesium at night, because it helps me sleep and gives me more energy when I wake up.
I know it's been years since Hanino has checked the thread, which is a good thing - it means he's out living his life and anxiety free! Even I forgot about this thread until today, when I realized I needed to go to Vitamin Shoppe for more magnesium soon. :) But I wanted to stop by and post an update for anyone still struggling, and - just in case he visits the thread one day - give Hanino my deepest gratitude. I really can't thank you enough for your help!
Best of luck to everyone on here <3 You'll be in my prayers and I hope all who try the regimen see the success the OP Hanino, myself, and many others have from it. And if not, I hope you'll find success with whatever treatment you do choose. My anxiety is way behind me now but I do still have vivid memories of how it felt, and my heart goes out to those still suffering. <3

Hi, alright. Going to try this. I've always found it peculiar that, though I have always been a rather anxious person, and had had a couple bouts with depression when I was younger, my strong, crippling (and diagnosed) anxiety started after I got intoxicated, and couldn't eat anything proper for a couple of weeks. Once I was done with my illness, the anxiety was there, and there it remains. I hope this is a clue as to what started this for me and that it indeed has to do with nutrition. Thank you for your suggestion Hanino. I will try it out, and report back on how it goes for me.

Hi, this thread is really informative. I am suffering from anxiety for about two months. I have tried different home remedies to tie this evil. But, failed. So, I consulted an anxiety disorder therapist in Toronto (http://www.cognitivebehaviourtherapytoronto.com/about-sue/) last week. He advised me to undergo cognitive behavior therapy for my problem. Now, I am planning to ask him about taking magnesium along with this treatment. Anybody had undergone this cognitive behavior therapy? If yes, how was your experience? Please do share.

Hi all,
long time anxiety sufferer here.
Ive been taking bcomplex, magnesium, omega3, vitamin d and multi for a long time in life with good effects.
Ive been suffering with depression though for the last years, and general hypervigilance.
Im also having a hard time tolerating stress.
I also use cbd oil with good results.
If someone has questions about cbd or hemp let me know, been using it for 3 years and make my own tea, oil, capsules.
I bought "amino 2222" by Optimum Nutrition, and the effects are great..
BUT - i feel almost like some sort of withdrawal a couple of hours after taking it?
I get more anxiety afterwards. Ive only taken it for 2 days.
Has anyone got past this?
Should one just keep on taking it?
Thank you, wish you a good recovery.

Really? I even don't know about this method yet. If this really helps to recover anxiety I will give a try for this one.

I believe its working for me mate...
Worth noting though! :
The new formula of amino fuel does NOT contain tryptophan or vitamin B-s i believe - and these two are essential for serotonin for example. I did not get effect from amino fuel.
Im getting effect from amino 2222..
Its been a bit up and down but im seeing results... Feeling glimpses of happiness and easiness that ive not felt in 10+ years. I take the amino acids before a meal - on an empty stomach, and afterwards multivitamin with food.
Im hoping and believing this works. Its a matter of getting the right amino supplement though. My best bet so far is with amino 2222.
Peace, best wishes!

Vitamin b3 (niacin) is needed for tryptophan to efficiently convert to serotonin. Tryptophan is found among the amino acids in a good amino complex.
Tryptophan is the precursor to serotonin, tyrosine is the precursor to dopamine - both are found in amino 2222 and they generally provide a well Being when Being taken. Jim Carrey used those two instead of ssris. Getting all the amino acids is probably most beneficial though.
To make things easy;
Amino 2222 and a multivitamin on an empty stomach should do the trick, amino acids are best absorbed on an empty stomach.
If anyone has a suggestion of another amino supplement im all ears, but so far amino 2222 seems to Work!

Update.
Im feeling great... my deeply troubled state of mind has easened up significantly.
Its as if i can finally start to heal, to recover.
"amino 2222" was a bit sketchy for my stomach so ive currently switched to "mutant amino 300".
and a multivitamin with food, thats it.
ive taken whey protein regurarly, but that has not helped me.
a good amino complex in tablet/capsule form and a multivitamin is what has made the difference.
Will not take victory for granted, but it feels better and better, and ive been taking it for about 5 days.
best regards

Hello Dahila
I think I got your name right at last.
Nope, I am not proud of myself. Ashamed would be a far better word.
I ask your forgiveness. It's obvious you're a highly esteemed member of this forum. This forum doesn't deserve you.
All the other MH forums I dabble in are really decimated too. I have no idea
Peace to you

Hey I have been using Amino fuel with great success until the recent change in ingredients. They call it a new formula but it’s actually lost loads of ingredients and it now sucks. I need an alternative as I am feeling bad again after so much progress. Anyone recommend a good way of getting the correct amino’s along with what b supplement to take?
Help please
Thanks
Chris

It's a radical approach, but way more effective → Consider eating less junk food, get more outdoor exposure, get in some regular exercise/activity, try sleeping to the beat of a regular routine and above all ... on occasion ... be sure to eat food that's not beaten to death, pulverized beyond recognition, cooked to a crisp or comes in any form of packaging. Doing so is way more efficient when it comes to both sourcing and absorbing vits and mins.

Don't beleive all the studies you read online when it comes to the selling off sups.
I take some Vitmin Bs during those time I eat plants only, however that too, is now debatable.
I really don't know ... to think most of us are confused. Probably best to experiment for yourself - is all any of us can do with such things. Asking people what supps work and do not is as fallible as asking the same question regarding medication. Way to many variables to consider from one individuals perspective. Generally speaking though, you can't wrong with with avoiding toxic lifestyles and or making healthier decisions. Especially those based on natural living.
