    New Medication...any thoughts?

I was put on a new prescription about 2 weeks ago and I was wondering if any of you had ever taken this medicine before and if you have had any success with it.
First off I am taking a lot of other medications which I will list here...
Alprazolam 2mg 3 times a day for panic attacks
    Levothroxine .25mcg for hypothyroidism
    B-12 for low B-12 levels
    and a multi vitamin

The new medicine is called Clomipramine and it is for Obsessive Compulsive disorder. My doctor said that I obsess over my thoughts and that might be the reason why I panic. Right now I am taking 50 mg and I might have to go up to 75 mg if 50 mg isn't working. I started out on 25 mg once a day but moved up to 50 mg once a day.

I just wanted to know if anyone has been on this medicine and what their experience might be.

    Thank you
    Jamie

    Hey Jamie,

Yes, I take xanax XR and many others here take xanax too (alprazolam).
The hypothyroidism can have alot to do with our mental state, panic, ocd, etc, because it controls the adrenal system/endocrine system. Sends the signals to the adrenals.
The B12 is generally for low energy, or a defiency. Which 6mg of xanax a day in itself can also cause.
The clomipramine is an old AD, but more superior for OCD than any of the newer AD's. (What are the obsessive thoughts or are they just every thought?)
Do you have health concerns and are you agoraphobic??

I took a similar meds back in the early 80's(imipramine) but not long enough to tell(just didn't want to take meds at that time, well, still don't) ). I do know these TCA meds are effective and used when ssri's fail or cannot be taken. I believe clomipramine is a very strong serotonin enhancing med so I hope you give it a fair trial.
If you don't get the results you hope for ask you doc about adding L-tryptophan(a diet supplement) as I think it's helping me allot and is safe and cheap. Yes there was a contaminated Japanese batch back in 1989 or so but that's history. Start with 1000mg if he agrees. You body needs it to make serotonin to reduce obsessing. We usually get all we need from diet but some need/could use more. Alankay

I know most of the stuff about my other medicines it was just the new Clomipramine that I was asking about. I have obsessive thoughts about a lot of things so you could say that every thought is an obsessive thought. I just have the usual concerns about taking a new medication in general. I am agoraphobic.

I used to frequent OCD forums when my pure-O was bad. I've heard quite a few good things about Clomipramine. I haven't taken it, so I can't offer you any experience, but I'm not hating this choice of drug for you. It'll be interesting to see what it does. I think it's a good choice. It's quite tailored specifically to obsessional problems.
