im new to the forum. Started having severe anxiety a few months ago. Was having panic attacks here and there but nothing serious. Then i found a lump on my side and all hell broke loose. It is only a fatty tissue but since then i am suffering from general anxiety. I was put on effexor but the side effects were bad so i was swithched to Celexa. Now up to 60mg yet i still have issues. Worse at night and in the morning. Just feeling terrible, face very tingly and left eye flutters. Just feeling of anxious but no panic attacks. DR. said we may try welbutron. Any opinions are were to go from here?

Thanks
Joe

Joe,

Hello there. You and I have a few things in common.I have just started having anxiety recently. I put on Celexa and it made me crazy the side affects where horrid. I weaned of that and was put on Wellbrutrin which has turned out to be even worse. I can't sleep, eat, think, my muscle twitch and spasm all the time. I am going to try a natural pill Sam-E and see if that works. I feel worse now that I did when i would get anxious!! Hopefully you find something that works for you!!

wellbutrin is not good for anxiety. it is known for ita anti depressant qualities, but it actually excites you rather than calm you down. How long have you been on celexa for? maybe give it 2 weeks and if the side effects arn't improving, then switch meds. Sometimes it can take a few goes before finding the right one, I know this can be a horrid time especially when you just wanna chill out, but hang in there things will get better.

Others (including your doctor) may disagree with me on this one. But at this point in time, I don't think medication is the best route to go. As you have already found out, the medications out there are really not that good - there tend to be LOTS of negatives. About the best that can generally be hoped for is partial relief, but at the expense of some side effects (experiencing full relief from medications with few to no side effects is rare, and when it does happen, it never lasts forever). Furthermore, meds are NEVER a cure. And getting off of them can be a truly horrid experience. I would try nonpharmaceutical treatments before delving into the 'wonderful world' of anxiety medications. A good self-help book like 'Complete Self-Help For Your Nerves' might be of GREAT help for you. Also, spending time outdoors and exercising can do ALOT to make anxiety disorder better. Therapy CAN help, but the helpfulness of therapy depends GREATLY on the therapist (and LOTS of them are duds). Also, be patient. I know that EVERYBODY with anxiety disorder wants it gone YESTERDAY (trust me, I have been there). But it takes time for anxiety disorder to improve.
