hi, im 43, and have had my first full blown panic attack about 6 months ago. although i've been having small ones for about 2 years, and just never really knew what was going on. my first real one i was driving on the highway, going to a near by town for a basket ball game, i made it about 10 miles and i started getting that feeling.... and then i felt like my heart was going to pound out of my chest, and thought i might have to call for help, because i thought i was having a heart attack! i pulled over... until it passed, pulled back out on the highway, and it happened again! i could see the town in the very near distance, but just couldnt do it, i turned around, and found a back road home that was more comfortable. now every since then i cant drive on the highway, im way too scarred, im ok unless someone is behind me. i called my dr. and she suggested a psychatrist, which i went to for about 3 months, just enough to get me on medication, he prescribed zoloft.... i really dont feel like it works that well, except for i have also developed a mild case of o.c.d and i feel like the zoloft takes the edge off of that. does anyone else have a driving fear? if so what do you do about it?? the dr say to just go out and practice driving on the highway, but its way to frightning!
