Klonopin issue

I take klonopin for tourette's syndrom (syndrome), which can also cause severe anxiety. I was perscribed .5mg every 4 hours as needed. I felt like I had control over it because I took it only as needed, which was sometimes a couple of times a week.
Now, my doctor wants me to take it at least once a day. Wouldn't this be worse for me? She claims I can have withdrawal symptoms if I take it as I have been doing.
