Clonazepam

Has any one ever taken this drug before? If so, what was your experience after taking it?

I have this drug, also called Clonipin, and I have to say that I rely on it heavily, but honestly I don't feel any effect from it. I try to take it as soon as I start feeling my anxiety, but it just does not seem to work. That's not to say that it won't work for others, my therapist actually takes this medicine and it works well for her. Just a matter if what works for your body.

I take Klonopin (clonazepam generic brand) 3x a day and works great. It lasts a bit longer (6-7 hours) then say xanax. Xanax usually only last/works for around 4 hours. At least in my case.

Clonazepam (or Klonopin) is a long acting Benzodiazpine, or Benzo. Benzo's are a class of drugs that are usually used to treat a range of mental illnesses, including generalized anxiety and panic disorder. Other drugs in the Benzo family include Alprazolam (Xanax), Lorazepam (Ativan), and Diazepam (Valium).

Clonazepam differs from some of these drugs because of it's extended half-life (roughly 8-12 hours). You can take it as needed, or sometimes in set daily doses.

Clonazepam, like other Benzos, is very addicting and habbit-forming. Your doctor should take care when prescribing you this medication, and I don't recommend a family doctor/general practitioner monitor this medication; only a specialist like a psychiatrist. Usually Benzo's are used for short-term relief, while in the meantime other non addicting medication treatments are used, depending on your condition.

Alright, well, there's the scoop. Now here's my personal experience. Currently I've been on Clonazepam for about 8-9 months. Right now my dose is 3mg/day. I would recommend against taking such high doses, and to try and take a dose only when completely necessary. Tolerance builds quickly, and when you have a tolerance to medication, it's obviously clear that it won't be as effective.

Be careful on Clonazepam. Make sure your working with your doctor AND therapist to find ways to cope without a benzo. Clonazepam usually should be a last resort for extreme panic or anxiety. Otherwise it's a great medication if used properly, and is a godsend to many people including myself.
