View Full Version : Soooo Overwhelmed

In my teens to early twenties, I was able to go with the flow and not put so much pressure on myself. As I get older, I want to do more, experience more, be an expert at everything, do everything I possibly can. It is incredibly overwhelming, and I feel like I cannot do a task/duty/fun activity without trying to be an expert or great at it. Failure scares me, it always has. Any tips/suggestions out there for reducing pressure like this? Noone else in my life is expecting certain things from me, only I am putting this type of pressure on myself.

thanks

Hey there,

I think perfectionism is a common trait amongst anxiety sufferers. I'm really bad and only now in my 40s have I realised how extreme my perfectionism is. A good trick is to think "would I expect this of someone else?" or "would I treat someone else like this?" You probably wouldn't treat anyone nearly as harshly as you do yourself.

Take it easy :)
