Welcome Rob69 :)

This is a good place to start!

I won't speak for others here, but I guess I listen to music and enjoy watching old reruns of old TV show to cope. For me, distraction is what works best.

Hi Rob and welcome :)

Hi All,
I am agimagi, I am new too, just signed up today after a bad anxiety attack this morning. I have been struggling since my teen years (now I am almost 32). I have never been on medication unless it was something totally natural, not prescribed at all. Well...anxiety comes and goes, I have my ups and downs, but for me it is totally inherited, my mom struggled/struggles with it. Now i am at the point when i take it very seriously and i truly want to tackle it and move on as much as possible. I just started using Headspace app on my phone, my husband`s friend recommended it who struggles with alcoholism and social anxiety just to name a few. He said it is great, I just used for 6 days now, but i only read great reviews about the app...so let`s see how it goes with Headspace. Working out, riding my bike help me as well as yoga and meditation, but once i start thinking about my crazy things...all goes down in the drain...

Sounds good, Fixmybrokenmind!

I can also recommend The Power of Now by E. Tolle. I don`t agree with everything he writes about and I only read about half of the book yet (it is kind if a book that you need to digest and re-read several times), but he has some good point about mindfulness and being and thinking about the NOW/Present to prevent anxiety and overthinking. What I do is read small sections sometimes even randomly and it calms me down and helps with breathing and being present.

That's awesome, I definitely will when time allows!

Since I have your recommendation it is only fair I give you one myself! I absolutely can't say enough good things about how to stop worrying and start living by Dale Carnegie. It absolutely changed my life and many regard it as the greatest self help book of all time :)

It is really not easy. I truly know. I have fear and anxiety basically about everything new and unknown in my life. However, I feel very fortunate because my husband is very supporting and accepting, but first it was very difficult to open up about all this when we were dating. For me it is a constant work on these issues, daily, which totally pays off. I have not paid attention for a couple of months (got promoted, busy holiday season, i work in retail, it is very demanding...) so it hit me hard again a couple of weeks ago...I felt terrible. I learned my lesson, I can`t just forget about working on my anxiety. :)
