Hi,

I signed up for this forum in order to get more informed about Anxiety and how it can affect people in general. I am 62 years old and am very new to the idea of mental health. Coming from a Hispanic family, as with many minorities--mental health was always seen as a myth or somethign you can get over by just working hard at it.

Now though, I've been dealing with a mother who suffered daily from anxiety (as we found out later), but didn't knwo exactly what it was. She had a sister that suffered 20 years from similar issues but because it happened in Latin America, the medicine and treatment was not very good and she died sad and most likely prescribed the wrong medication (peopel said she was a zombie).

I just wanted to sign up here to learn more, expand my horizons when it comes to mental health and hear some of your stories and hopefully get real feedback from those who suffer from Anxiety like my mom and to get a better idea of what we as a family (myself and my 3 sisters) should expect as far as treatment and help along the way.

After consulting with my son who suffers from ADHD (I am still having a hard time accepting it), I am having a slow but better understanding of mental health since it's not something as a family we really knew much about.

Thanks to my son, he urged us to have mom go see a therapist to get a proper diagnosis, before this our family doctor would just prescribe medication for what we thought was depression. Now though she is properly diagnosed as having Anxiety and it gives us finally some idea of what it is she's suffering from. She complained of pain and burning in her body, which we thought was physical but the doctors all confirmed for being 85yo, she's in perfect health physically. After google searching I found that the 'burning' sensation is actually something tied to Anxiety which was surprising!

We continue to try and work to find the right medication/treatment, but I fear we're still too 'new' to it all and signed up here in teh hopes of hearing more from those who have more experience and actually live with this daily. What do you recommend for my mom?

I really appreciate any future feedback. Thanks in Advance! :)

Hi there!
I am a Victim of Anxiety. Anxiety has ruined my Life. It all started long time ago when I was young.
OCD, ADHD, Low self-esteem, PTSD, Autism, SAD ,Bipolar, PMO ,schizophrenic All cause Severe anxiety. Believe it or not, I have all of them.

Unfortunatelly, they are all mental Disorders. This means that one will leave with them to his/her death. I have suffered alot. I am 18 years Old. I am anxious about everything. I never enjoy anything in life.

I only wish to die in a sleep. This anxiety has affected my studies terribly. Anyways, tell her to keep going on.
