View Full Version : Do you guys play video games?

I find that I enjoy certain genres when I'm really upset. I can't play shooters all the time because they trigger really scary intrusive thoughts from time to time, but they help me unwind when I feel I have more control over my thought process.
I love playing visual novels or really silly games when I'm depressed though. Things like Harvest Moon are really awesome, because I just zone out and take care of cows and chickens all day. Pokemon is alright for when I feel this way too, because it's a little over the top and silly.

I avoided those FPSs when my intrusive thoughts were in full swing, too. Don't blame you there.
I play mostly sports games now. Sadly I gotta pay my own bills (thanks adulthood), so don't get the chance to just sit down for an all-dayer. Sucks.

I find that Spec Ops: The Line is actually okay for me, because I'm really not supposed to enjoy that experience at all. It's like one of those weird Metal Gear Solid type "WAR IS BAD BECAUSE PEOPLE DIE," sorts of games, except you're the one committing all of these horrible crimes against humanity and feeling conflicted. So if I get an intrusive thought and I have to turn it off for a good few hours, then good. War is horrible. That's the entire point of that game. Awesome, I got triggered!!! That means I'm not a terrible person. lol

I play those games on Facebook like Candy Crush Saga. Do they count as video games? I really zone out with them sometimes.

Zelda is good fun. You can download an emulator for the N64 and Snes. Ocarina of Time and Link To The Past are the best games to go for imo.

I haven't played video games in over ten years.
However, I refuse to sell them or give them away because as soon as I do that I'll want to play video games again.
I have an Intellivision system (which was created before the Atari, believe it or not), an Atari 2600, a Super Nintendo, and a Nintendo 64 system.

If you like MMO's and have a PC try Phantasy Star Online 2. It's a japanese MMO but with a large english speaking population and an all inclusive english patch for it.
All the info for the installer and registering an account for PSO2 is here. Btw it's a free to play and download game.

My boyfriend got me hooked on playing stuff through Steam about 2 years ago. Games that I play most often are: Don't Starve, Starbound, Star Trek Online and several Star Wars games.

Video games are FANTASTIC stress relief for me. I usually fall back to favorites I've played a thousand times when I'm feeling really low (I know Mass Effect well enough that I can play the entire game without needing any assistance, and between the action and story, it's a good outlet), but sometimes just taking out my 3DS and milling around in AC:NL does the trick.
Hell yea i play games! i also develop small games for my friends and family on IOS and Android platform. Love my PS4, its great to immerse yourself into a fantasy world.

(I know that this is over a month old, but, I'm going to reply anyway. Haha)
My go to game is Minecraft. And I love how popular it's getting now. It's so easy to get lost in that game and just, build whatever you put your mind to. Unfortunately, It's a little too easy to get lost in, and you end up playing it for hours and hours. Totally worth it though! :p
Some other favorites are The Last of Us, Gary's Mod, Gears of War (So stoked for the Xbox One edition), Limbo, Zombies on Call of Duty (basically the only good thing about Call of Duty, though the Black Ops 3 beta is pretty sweet...), and many many other games.

I'm a pretty big gamer and I find it's one of the only things that helps my mind go away from thoughts. Games like Elder Scrolls and the Witcher I love because there's so much to look at and do, its a great distraction. I love harvest moon and animal crossing as well because they're so simple and sweet.
My newest greatest love is Arkham Knight. I think I like the kind of games where you can just roam off and don't have to do anything unless you feel like it. I can just fly around the map and enjoy the view.
Waiting patiently for Fallout 4..:p

Xbox Scorpio launches later this year, may be worth holding out to see what Microsoft are doing with that. Or of course the PS4 is a great console too, and Nintendo Switch launches in March!

Instead of giving a huge list that I always play, I'll just link the latest game I'm now playing. There's a new minecraft "like" game called Creativerse that I am really having fun with of late. Unbeknowns to me it's been out for a while. I found it in steam whilst searching for a survival game.

Excellent User Reviews:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/280790/
It's FREE to play although I bought the pro account for $20 simply because I enjoy it so much. The torch and wings come in handy, but it's more the server worlds and extra control settings that really open up the game with having a pro account. It matters little though it you just want to go in world and check out the game for free because you can virtually do the same as most other people. It's extremely immersive and you won't have to worry about others trying to kill you all the time like most other survival games of today.
Time for me to get back to my base.
PS - Is easy for friends to join your world without having to pay monthly subs.
Textures are great - no need for resource packs - runs smooth as on my laptop with setting all the way up - seamless game play with user controls - excellent map to navigate with. IMO better preview vid in above steam link. Also check out the pro pack previews on youtube.

Processors (CPU) that meet:
Creativerse minimum system requirements (http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=23710&canMyCpuRunIt=Creativerse)
It's free to play and the install dose not take that long respective to most other games currently on steam. The settings can be altered. I'd be interested to know if it works but understand your reluctance.

I'm kind of holding my breath tonight as tomorrow I might be going ahead with an upgrade to my existing laptop. I'm thinking of venturing into the following laptop so I can play city skylines and likewise games at max setting settings:
https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2913/33568452701_0bd2b0aeff_b.jpg (https://www.asus.com/au/Notebooks/ROG-GL702VM/)
Took quite a bit of researching to come up with this choice. Asus GL702VM 17.3" i7 1TB+256GB 16GB GTX 1060 6GB Gaming Laptop (https://www.asus.com/au/Notebooks/ROG-GL702VM/)
I was originally scoping out a refurbished Alienware 17R4 Laptop but after chatting with the Australian Dell Sales rep - it was a no go. They were all sold out. Finding a similar laptop with the same size SSD HDD, RAM, CPU and especially GPU was a challenge. Most of the SSD HHDs in other models where too small and the GPU only had half the ram. The above Asus Model matched the dedicated 6GB GTX 1060 GPU as too has a 256GB SSD HDD. i7 CPU identical to Alienware's 17R4. Being slimmer and lighter it's bound to run a little hot ... but within acceptable parameters. Thankfully this one is upgradable to 32GB DDR4 System Ram. Comes with 16 as opposed to 8GB.
I've been holding off a few years now - I am very lucky IF I decide/am allowed (wife) to go ahead with this purchase. The Mobile GTX 1060 GPU is the first mobile graphics card to run almost as quick as it's desktop counterpart. No doubt there will be other bottle necks ... but all in all, there is a lot going for this laptop in the way of gaming.
If I do go ahead and get it ... I'll upload a video once I have set it up and been acquainted. It's just a middle of the range BUDGET gaming laptop - BUT still WAY out of my usual budget this day and age. Thankfully I am skilled at milking the most out of my computers and games.
I doubt I will even have change to buy a pc game if going ahead with this purchase. LOL.

Might be a strugle but you could try it with the graphics setting turn to low which I don't think will affect the game play at all. This is an explorer game which I think well be a good change of pace for me. Brain teaser of sorts as well. I took the liberty of screen shooting the minimum system requirements for you:

.
Here is the steam Link (http://store.steampowered.com/app/582500/) - seems to have positive reviews. I'm going to download now. ;)
That's a nice looking laptop Ponder with decent specs, I think I remember watching Digital Foundry do a review on that laptop not so long ago and they gave a glowing review. Yea I play Unturned, it's a whacky game for sure but the modding community are pretty active which adds a lot to the game. I'm playing Lumo at the moment, super cute puzzle game but it's harder than it looks at first glance.
I'm playing on PS4 but I think the PC version is pretty much the same, in terms of mechanics and gameplay.

Thanks man. It only feels like the XBox one was released not that long ago and already they are coming out with another one. Once Apple started doing that with their phones ... I stopped buying apple. Eventually I stopped buying/leasing them new.
Hopefully this new laptop on its way will serve me well for at least 5 years before feeling the urge to move on.

Still enjoying the classics using emulators. Someday I"ll upgrade, but so long as the old relic is still kicking I see no reason to junk it. Sure a bit (more than a bit) outdated but it does what I need it to do. Not many browser left that will still work.
1. Pale Moon (Firefox Fork Modified to New Moon)
2. Basilisk (Also Firefox Modified to Serpent)
3. Maxthon (Chromium - No good at all IMHO)
Unfortunately Firefox is not longer supporting this OS (the last version was 52). Too bad because IMO its the best browser...bar none !
