So I asked my PCP to re prescribe Effexor finally after going through months of battling with the local clinic. My previous therapeutic dosage was 300 MG but I was stepped up. It has been about 8 months since I have taken it but I was prescribed the same 300 MG dose.
I am going to go out on a limb here and assume that my PCP hasn't the foggiest clue how to prescribe theses types of drugs.

Should I just step myself up? I remember the schedule and I don't fully trust taking such a high dose right out the gate isn't going to make me super jump off a bridge crazy. I tried contacting the clinic but was instructed to set an appointment to discuss medication concerns. The next available appointment is in July. Oh how I love clinics.

What is a PCP? The next available appointment is in July, just to discuss medication?? That seems a bit crazy.

I was on Effexor for a while but I can't remember the dose at all. Generally though you can't go straight back onto what you were originally on, you need to build it up gradually..

Edit: I remember the dosages now. I'm pretty sure Effexor goes 75, 150 and 300mg. Or maybe just 75 and 150mg. Either way, 300mg is quite a high dose (I think I was on 150), so I wouldn't go straight onto that.

Sae,
Not sure how much I can help but I'll try. I was on Effexor for a few years ago and I think the highest dosage I was on was 90mg. Your primary care physician should have discussed with you what dosage he/she wanted you start on and how long to stay on each dosage before stepping up. Is the doctor who prescribed to you work at the clinic or somewhere else? I'm not trying to be judgy or anything but its usually recommended that when a patient tapers on or off of a medication that they be monitored by their physician. I had to taper off of one of my ad's a few years ago on my own due to extenuation circumstances but that's a story for another day. The next available appointment being in July seems crazy even for a clinic.
