Hey.
I just recently been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
It's still new to me and I'm at a stage where I'm torn between loads of feelings and emotions.
I don't know really what else to say. Sorry if it seems like an odd post. I'm just nervous but thought I'd let something out.

Hey Luce! Totally normal to feel anxiety about a diagnosis. Do you have a therapist who's helping you sort some of it out?

Yes. I've been signed to a one on one worker and I've been put on the waiting list to start group therapy. Bit anxious about it all. :(

I have had individual counseling many times and group therapy for about a year so I might be able to answer any questions you have about it. Is there anything specific that is worrying you?

I imagine not all group therapy sessions are created equal but I can share with you my experiences. The majority of the focus was changing negative thinking patterns and reinforcing positive thoughts, even small things like completing a task you've been avoiding should be seen as a victory. It's really difficult to do, but it's an important part of therapy to recognize signs of distorted thoughts. The groups I were in were always under twenty people but I assume that varies depending on the size of the city and facilities. The therapists would give us a paper about a certain topic or just questions to check up on how we are doing. They encouraged us to speak up to share our answers but most of us just waited for them to go around the room and call us out by name. I could tell that every group member, no matter how old or how "normal" they seemed, shared the same nervousness that I did in being there. No one really wanted to answer the questions. We were all very respectful of each other though.
