Dull ache in Urethra?

Hey guys been getting a dull ache in my Urethra (i'm a guy) when i'm needing to use the toilet. it's been on and off all day, it's not incredibly painful but I can still feel it. It also persists for a while after I use the toilet. any ideas of what it may be? My guess is a Urinary tract infection. I'm booked in for the doctors for the 30th, hopefully it will go by then.
Any suggestions to self medicate in the mean time?

Just drink a lot, I hear cranberry juice is good for infections from women in my office.

If you think it is a UTI then they do have otc uti meds that help alleviate the pain and discomfort. Cranberry juice does help too.
