Just wanted to introduce myself here. I'm Daniel, and I'm currently near the end of my psychiatry residency at the university of toronto. As such, I have vast knowledge of all things psychiatric, be it medication, alternative treatments,..anything to do with the mind!
I love helping others so I want you guys to know that I'll try to be here on the forum for as long as I can (clinic hours are a bitch) and available to answer questions. Please remember that I am a doctor in training still, and any advice that I give you MUST be approved by your attending doctor first before you attempt any changes.
I've also had my fair share of anxiety and depression in my life, so I can relate. I've made a full recovery, am doing the job that I love, and I'd you all to be able to rid yourself of these worries and just live life.
Thanks!
Just a thought...maybe we can sticky this?

You could try getting in touch with the mods, maybe they'll do it for you. There aren't any active ones around at the moment, so you'll have to go in search of them!

I'm sorry, but what exactly do you mean by that? I'm not a "spammer". I don't have to do this, but I do because I believe in giving back to the community.

I think Dahlia was just commenting on the 'vanishing mods' thing and not casting asparagus. If that's a thing. I think it should be.

I have a question actually. I am in the process of getting off of Effexor since it wasn't working out for me. However, I feel like I will need something for my anxiety once effexor is completely out of my system. I currently take 1mg Ativan as well, which helps tremendously, but I would eventually like to stop taking it on a regular basis. I was wondering what you would recommend in terms of natural cures. Supplements, herbal remedies, etc. is there anything you've tried personally of that nature that has helped you?

Hi,
There are many natural remedies for anxiety such as calming teas, like green tea or chamomile. There are also botanicals such as kava kava and kratom which provide relief to some people. One thing to note is that for just about all of these, there is no empirical study that proves they help with anxiety/depression.
However, since everyone's anxiety is different, different treatments work for different people. The trick is to find the one that works for you. Currently there is a lot of talk about a herb called kratom, a derivative of the coffee plant. It is reported to provide effective relief for anxiety and depression, while being safe and without many side effects. Something to look into.

See a doctor or psychiatrist immediately, and tell them exactly what you are going through. While they might not be for everyone, psychiatric medications as a whole are a safe and effective treatment. If you find you are having imminent thoughts of harming yourself, call emergency services (911 in most places).
