Hello all,

Im currently on Buspar 5mg twice a day and Klonopin .5mg as needed. My psychiatrist just now told me to start weaning off buspar due to side effects and has told me for a second time that Klonopin is very dangerous and can cause seizures.

I am very scared of the seizure part. Klonopin is a very effective drug. I use .25mg and it calms me down fast as needed. He is stubborn and does not want to put me on anymore meds and wants me to go to therapy. Im in college and have a full time job and fear not having at least 1 drug to calm me down.

Im now very afraid of klonopin and the fact that it can cause seizures. I only have 7 pills left. Cut in half that makes 14 doses left.

Please let me know any information you have on this or your opinion on this.

Thanks

If Klonopin is discontinued abruptly after long term use, it may lead to seizures, tremors, muscle cramping, vomiting, and/or sweating. I am on it for a year and on psychiatrist prescription, I talked to her about it for a long time and she has people who are for years on it on small dose.
I am surprised reading it. If you do not ween slowly from it it realy can cause some symptoms of withdrawal. On the other hand 0.25 it is really small dose
Klonopin does not cause seizures, it is rather prescribed with the other meds for epilepsy. He is trying to use the tactic to discourage you from taking benzo. You are very young and you should try different approach than meds, at least try it, please

Klonopim/clonazepam - is one helluva medication. One just need to dose it both in the mind of hours of a day, and days. From my own experience, it's great to take it before sleeping, and 2-3 drops tops [0,2-0,3 mg clonazepam]. Of course everyone needs some more, or maybe less.

Very important thing is to rest every 4-5 days from it to at least 2-3 days. That way Your body shoudln't develop dependancy on clonazepam. I worked my way out like with with Xanax for almost a decade. That I took it "regularly" [not really regularly, but there were weeks it was regular], but with pauses.

P.S.: And of course, if You don't really need it, go Dahilas path. Psychofaramceutics are double-edged weapon.

I forgot to admit that twenty years from now I will be dead and forgotten so in my situation I do not care about dependency:)
Even that I still meditate everyday and it is the only tool beside the meds that will help you. You may discover that it gives you so much pleasure that you will never stop it:))
