Anxiety distorts reality?

Anyone feel that anxiety causes severe depression, tossing and turning in sleep, disturbing out of the ordinary thoughts.
Is this normal for GAD to distort your reality and effect your vision when in a panic?
can someone give me some techniques to deal with it.
