Prayer for Anxiety

I used to volunteer at an NGO for children whose lives were affected by HIV. Many of these kids lost parents and siblings to the disease, and many of the kids themselves were infected since birth. Needless to say, the psychosocial issues surrounding their lives were complex. They received wonderful secular psychological assistance that taught them all about self-esteem, self- worth, inner strength, etc.. but this was not always enough.
One of the things I found to be incredibly helpful was explaining to them that they were all children of God. These kids were exposed to instability constantly. People important to them got sick and died on a regular basis.
When they were told... "You are a child of God. Nobody can take that away from you. It is something permanent, eternal, and unbreakable." - there eyes would light up in a remarkable way. These kids were not easily impressed. They had been around the block of life many more times than most adults. But this message reached their hearts and gave them confidence in something that the world could not offer.
We are children of God. When we understand and accept this we find rest in an eternal truth. Worry and fear shrink rapidly.
Trust in this truth and be free.
