I have been on 1 mg (down to .75mgs currently) for 19 years. I would try other means of addressing your anxiety first. I've not experienced any problems on the drug, but it's a drug of last-resort, or so the medical community now seems to think.

Ah ok, shouldn't be a problem. Try not to take every day if you can help it. They can be a tad addictive as they work so well :)
What did you get, 2mg of Diazepam?

Oh right, nice.
Darn good med! They're so comforting to have, just in your pocket. Having something that can kick the ass of your panic attack right there ready. Priceless!!

Benzos are very effective , but make sure you don't take them every day, because you can become reliant on them. If you take a benzo regularly for awhile then stop, you can get a withdrawal that's nastier than the anxiety itself. I try to take no more than 2-3 times a week as needed, or no more than 2 weeks at a time if taken daily.

Xanax unfortunately is the only thing keeping me from being committed. This is my worst episode to date at 36. I'm having to currently take 2 to three mg/day. So don't sweat taking the benzodiazepines. It helps you get through the worst of it. Like I said, without it I'd be done.
