I have a few disc's in my neck, per MRI, that have Cervical Degenerative Disc Disease, Cervical Spondylosis, Brachial Neuritis, etc.. I wake up every morning with my head throbbing. Sometimes early in the morning, around 2:00 a.m.-4:00 a.m. and usually, not always, but most often, will have a second one in the afternoon. My pain Dr. had me on 300 mg of Topamax for about three years, and I stopped taking it, because of loss of Insurance and the cost of the medicine. My regular MD started me on Depakote. I took it in the a.m. and drove to another drs. appointment. My Oncologist. On the way home, I felt like I was high as a kite. I almost wrecked three or four times. I called the pharmacy, and asked one of the pharmacists I knew real well, if that was normal. She asked what dose he started me out on. I said 500 mg. She just said Wow!! That's a high dose to start someone out on. You need to break it in half and take a half of one for a while. Well, I didn't because my Dr decided to put me on propranolol. I can not take this drug. So my options are to get back on the Topamax or break the 500 mg of Depakote in half and take 250 mg of it. I was wondering who or how many of you guys and girls have had luck with both of these. Right now i'm eating Fiarinol's, well 2 four times a day. And I know that isn't good at all. I want off of these. So Topamax vs Depakote?? Any experiences would greatly be appreciated. These headaches are so overbearing. Sometimes, I'm in the bed over half the day, before I can move. Thank you so much. D.

Are you also on the forum mvertigo? Just curious. I took Topamax at 25 mg for one month. It did not help with the headaches but I took it anyway to suppress appetite and suppress dreams.

Oh my..

I have the exact same fuggin problem!! Here's what I've found to be most beneficial. I have a product made at a compounding pharmacy in Colo. It's called Compound 6, it is a topical gel. It has (6) different medications in it. (keta/baclo/cyclo/diclo/gaba/tetracaine)...Rub it on, 3 minutes later, the pain subsides and it prevents the headaches from happening to because that where they originate. In the cervical spine and it inflammes the nerve branches that come up into the head. I put it on 4 to 6 times a day. It is very affordable for a month at $60. The most awesome pain cream I've ever had!!...

I chose this option because I did not want to take more pills. (already have 10 + this)....for each day.

Ask your Dr. to prescribe Compound 6! Brown's Compounding Center, Parker, Colo.....240g per month. They ship it right to your door...

E-Man...:)
