Hi guys

Today is my first day taking Citalopram. Been prescribed 10mg. Just wanting to ask a few questions.

When is the best time to take? Morning or just before bed?

Any side effects? Have looked on google and read the info leaflet and quite frankly it scared me.

So any feedback is appreciated.

Cheers

Citalopram is one of the best meds for side effects really. I've always liked it, I took it twice, then retook it some time later.

It usually has pretty good results for most people too.

10mg is really low. As low as a dose goes. It should be pretty easy. Expect a little increase in anxiety, some Nausea and perhaps a little sleeplessness at first. I always took it in the day so sleeplessness wasn't an issue, and if any increased anxiety came, it was much easier to deal with than at night. That being said, it's fine taking it whenever, mike likes it at night,

Don't worry too much about side effects leaflets. They are mostly for legal cover. Anybody can take to his drug, people will previous illnesses or diseases, very young people can take it, the elderly, people on other drugs. For the normal, pretty healthy individual, the usual side effects are really quite mild, and are usually gone within 2 weeks.

Hope it goes well for you!

My dose was increased to 40mg and I took one the night before I went to bed I woke up felt ok then I just felt suddenly weird like something come over me then of course started panicking but since then I haven't took any not even reduced back to 20mg it was that scary for much I've made another phobia against the meds I'm an idiot I've gotta get out of it but I've been without meds for 2 years now and I feel all over the place, but when I was on 20mg they was brilliant I suppose you've gotta expect an increase of intensity of side affects when upping your dose but I'm such a wimp and wimped out at the first horrible affects an nothing gave it a chance don't make my mistake wish you all the best any ways :)

The same same thing happened when I changed dose when on it. It happened twice, I freaked out, wanted to throw them in the bin, but gave it one last chance, it went away a day or two after, and my mood improved big time after that.

It was a horrible thing when it cropped up though!

I've just earlier taken my third tablet of citalopram. I've been taking it in the evening, I'm taking it an hour less each day (up to 8pm) just to see how it changes taking it closer to the middle of the day.

Taking it late evening has resulted in the following for me so far:
First day after; burning sensations, heightened anxiety, extreme drowsy, migraine, insomnia, stomach churning, no appetite

So second day after(today); no appetite, stomach churning(a lot probably because of not eating much), feeling sick, my chest pains have increased but generally anxiety has dropped somewhat

You guys think I should try taking it earlier in the day? I'm gonna bring it down to tea/dinner time as I can to see how side effects change, as it seems some of you saying sickness comes from taking it late?

Congrats for sticking on it. I probably would have bailed at 'burning sensations' :p

I always took it at lunch time. Never liked how it made me feel later on. Too early and it makes you kinda nauseous, too late and it seems to affect sleep and screw with the mind. Lunch time is a nice compromise. Although some people swear by night time! (Freaks ;))

Haha thanks I do see it as an achievement, explaining that to people is going to be amusing because it was scary but I pushed through it, by which I mean mainly I just had to sleep it off ha.

Yeah I think having it late is affecting my sleep currently, last night was hard to nod off. It seems that when I take it, after about an hour I genuinely feel elated, happy, confidence in how I'm going to fix myself, etc, so it defo needs to be taken earlier because it's making me more awake for a while for sure. Gonna keep pushing an hour back each day.

I take it at 5pm and am tired 24.7 since taking this, it's a small price to pay for my anxiety to be gone though.
