Proving to be more difficult than I thought!

I first went to my doctor for generalized anxiety, extreme insomnia and I compulsively pick at my skin. He started me on 50mg of zoloft and xanax as needed (generics). The first week (half a pill) I felt like I was on a bad high and was just out of it. Then the picking got worse (its consuming my time - all the time). He upped me to 100mg and said if it didn't get better to call a psychiatrist. I finally did (the 100mg made no difference).

He switched me to 10mg

These meds take time to work and can increase anxiety at first. The Xanax should help that using as little as possible . If you can afford it do see a pdoc but I bet if you hang in there with 100 mgs of Zoloft it will help. I would rather see you on a longer acting benzo though but that's just me. Ativan or klonopin act longer but Xanax is sure as heck better than nothing so just use as little as you can as with any benzo.
I believe a pdoc would just keep you on an Ssri and ask you to lean on the benzo for relief until the Ssri effects kick in a few weeks. At some point you should talk to a therapist to look for a source for your anxiety. PM me any time. Alankay
