I've had life-long severe GAD w/ occasional panic attacks.

In the last 3-4 years I've been on everything. Valium, Ativan, Prozac, Effexor you name it. The ssri's seemed to make everything worse. And worse, I would just stop the mentioned drugs cold-turkey cause of weight gain side effects, or just not working well. The Doctor at the time never said anything about benzo withdrawals. Luckily, I was on somewhat low doses and while had bad anxiety and bp issues, nothing serious.

Fast forward to now. I am on xanax as this is the only one that really WAS working for me. It's been a year now of 1 1/2 mg's a day. Split in to three .5 mgs throughout the day.

I feel I am so messed up from all the previous SSRI's and previous cold turkey of the other benzos that didn't really work for me.

I want off xanax as I don't want to be on something so long term, but I NEED something for my anxiety and have tried everything else.

anyone else had simliar experiences?
