Hello! I would like to share my experience with you all as these forums helped me out a lot as I was starting out on my medication.
A few months ago I had a major panic attack. I'd never had one before (as far as I know). I went to the ER in an ambulance. The ER doctor gave me some lorazepam/ativan to "take as needed." I did, but then had recurring attacks that week. I went to see my doctor and she prescribed Celexa. I really didn't want to go on medication, but as I'm a very busy person, decided to try it after a week. Half-a-pill, and the next morning, I thought I was tripping, and was very sick. I anticipated discomfort, but this was crazy.
I called my doctor and she prescribed Lexapro. I started on 5mg, and intended to stick with it. The side effects were minimal (especially compared with Celexa). I was out of it for a few days. I began feeling better after a week, and was determined to stay on 5mg. However, it wasn't in the stars. I had another panic attack at work and decided to give in and take the 10mg...I knew it was helping me, but apparently not enough.
That was two months ago. I'm doing wonderfully now. Once I accepted that medication would help me, a huge weight was lifted, and I'm back to normal thus far!
Another thing I ran into was that I could only get a good night's sleep if I took .5mg of ativan at night. Of course, I know that sticking to benzos isn't a good thing and was prescribed Trazodone for sleep. It has been wonderful.
I've prioritized all of my work-life things, and have been great! I just thought I'd share as I found the positive stories really helped as I struggled with the decision/finality of going on meds.
I take the Lexapro in the evening; that seems to work for me.
Cheers.
