Hi everyone, just joined this forum now, basically wanted to share my experiences of anxiety in the hope that I can help others and also get help for my own problems.

I've had problems with panic attacks on and off for 6 years I recently had 3 sessions of hypnosis with a registered hypnotherapist and she did a bit of CBT. iv had just CBT on its own before and it did nothing. After the 2nd session of hypnotherapy my panic attacks stopped completely its like my anxiety is blocked by my own body before it gets anywhere near the point of panic attack - anyone struggling with panic attacks I would highly recommend looking into hypnosis!

Now I'm trying to get through my general anxiety - has anyone tried anything like hypnosis to get over that? I am thinking of going back to the hypnotist as I only went for panic attacks before but I don't know if it will be as effective?

I have just been looking into hypnotherapy and I am definitely going to give it a try. I do not know the root cause of my anxiety & panic attacks, so I feel that hypnotherapy would be useful at finding out what is behind my anxiety.

It's comforting to know that it has worked for you & I'm happy for you that it has stopped your panic attacks.

How did you find the sessions?

Some folks do find this helps indeed.
Just don't pay for a long set of sessions. Pay for one session at a time.
This could be good for you. Alankay

If everyone in the waiting room is behaving like a chicken -- Don't go in!! ;)

No but seriously, I've heard some people have minds very receptible to hypnosis, whilst others have minds almost impossible to hypnotise.

If its worked for you before, it seems it might be a method that agrees with you, and seeing as you didn't find benefit from cbt, it may be worth giving it a go. If I were in your shoes I'd probably do what Alan said; take a few sessions, and see how I feel from there. :)

Iv written two really long replies now about what hypnosis was like and they have both just vanished after I clicked send, anyone have a clue why? Don't want to write it all again if itl just disappear! - basically what I'm trying to say is that it's not like it is in the movies she didn't regress me into being a child or anything she put me in relaxation and then put suggestions in my head that come into play when my anxiety rises and stop it in its tracks, or at least that's how I think it works
