Hi. Im wondering who has experienced this drug and what can I expect from it for relief. I read a post with the same question from several months ago but there were not many replies.

Im feeling almost constant anxiety. Its something I cannot get relief from. Its not anywhere near what Im reading on this site that most of you are feeling or can feel at times but to me its driving me nuts. I feel nothing but compassion for those of you I cant imagine feeling worse than this. What im experiencing in comparison make me feel like I should just suck it up. However for me what Im feeling is a dramatic change.

At this time Im just wondering what others knowledge of this drug is and if it is outdated and or if there is another alternative that works better. I took one pill 10mg this morning and then another at 12pm it is now 3 and I do feel slightly better but my mind is still wacked out. Im EXTREMELY IRRITABLE not because of the meds just as part of my symptoms. Im tense, cant seem to relax doing ANYTHING. I hoping for advice thank you

Hi unofornaio

I have just got back on the anxiety and panic train after being free for almost 4 years. I'm a GAD SAD PD sufferer with agorophobia. I just started peroxitine 20 Mg 5 weeks ago. My doc has also prescribed me vistaril(hydroxyzine) 50 Mg to take 4 times a day if I need to. I have yet to try it despite how crappy I feel. I'm anxious to see what others have to say. Hang in there. We all know how you feel. I wouldn't wish it on ky worst enemy.

Atarax is good for anxiety. It's an old antihistamine that they noticed has good anti anxiety effects. I tried some a while back and found it helpful. As with any med your experience will vary but I found it helped. No risk of dependence is a big plus. Alankay

thanks for the info. This is my first time experiencing anxiety at a level that actually caused me physical symptoms. I mean I have certainly experienced "general anxiety" but nothing like this recently. Its like it is right there with me every second Im awake.

I actually feel much better this morning I dont know if its from the pills or just that I have had 1 day off. I have been working for 3 weeks straight now. The....actually I dont even know what he was...(Kaiser Insurance) that prescribed these was not very informative on the when and how to (as needed) take these. I mean how do I know Im going to experience anxiety 2 hours in the future? It also says 1 or 2 pills a day???what the heck does that mean ? one in the morning one in the evening, 2 hrs apart 6,8,?? Even the Pharmacist was very vague. This was on Friday of this past week so everyone was in a hurry that I saw.

Since i currently have a very basic understanding of how Anxiety drugs work or are supposed to work can some one sort of describe a typical dosing schedule? I mean like before bed or in the morning and in afternoon. how long do these types of drugs "last" in your system? in terms of effective time.

Sorry for all the general question its just that the inof on line for this drug is very limited. It sounds like it is very old.

Thanks again

Uni,
I have 50 mg capsules. My PDOC says I can take them every 6 hours or as needed up to 4 times a day.

How long did it take before you noticed results from taking it? After a week I haven't noticed it helping at all?

Roc,
If you don't notice it working the first time you take it, it may not be working for you. I take it if I'm having a rough day.
My SSRI has helped more than anything to beat back my anxiety and panic attacks. Hydroxizine is basically a really strong Benadryl. It's great if you need help sleeping or are having an extra tough day. It's also given pre-surgery to calm nerves. It's only recently that they realized that it has anti anxiolytic properties. It might be time to try something else if its not working for you. I wish you luck.

It hasn't done a thing for me, it's supposed to replace my Xanax, so far there hasn't been a day when I haven't supplemented with a .5mg Xanax with the 4 hydroxyzine (1 every 6 hrs) I'm prescribed now. I'm changing doctors due to getting free healthcare as a Vet, I don't have to pay for meds anymore!!
