View Full Version : Coming off effexor and introducing cymbalta.
I have had a hell of a time coming down from 225 mg of effexor to 75mg of effexor. I went from 225 to 150mg for ten days then started on 75mg for ten days and so on. Just started taking 37.5mg of effexor with 30mg cymbalta. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the withdrawal symptoms? I am so dizzy and have such a bad headache. The brain zaps have gone away, but the dizziness seems to worsen by night time which makes things really bad since I am working midnights this week. Moving my head causes me to hear like a wooshing sound and feel sick to my stomach from the dizziness. Any ideas of how to make this stop or help it at least?

Hope you don't mind me asking , why are you coming off Efferfexor ? Is it not working for you?
I've been told to try this med but am very unsure after all I've been through with medications .
Appreciate any advice x
It was okay for a bit hut when they increased my dose I had a bad anxiety reaction. Attacks all the time... just was not doing good at all. If I were u I wouldn't go on effexor unless yours okay with going through months of hell when you have to come off it.

Effexor is one of the hardest antidepressants to get off of, which unfortunately, you've just discovered. To withdraw off this antidepressant, it's best to do it over a longer period of time under the direction of a psychiatrist, preferably over a few months, than over a few weeks.
You could ask your doctor, if you could move back to 75mg, since it seems you didn't have any intolerable side affects at that dosage. If you did have intolerable side effects, then go back up to 150mg. From that dosage, give your body more time to withdraw then every ten days, possibly every twenty of thirty, depending on what your doctor recommends.
If you continue to experience these intolerable side effects, you really can't determine if you're getting any benefit from the Cymbalta, since you're body is still adjusted to the Effexor. You may have to hold off on the Cymbalta, until your body feels more stable, as it once did on the Effexor.
Please talk to your doctor as soon as you can about your current condition.
My doctor is the one who is helping me come off effexor. He added the cymbalta early to hopefully help with the withdrawl symptoms. It has helped almost stop the brain zaps completely but still very very dizzy and upset stomach.
