Hi everyone. I'm a 29 year old guy who had my first taste of anxiety unexpectedly about 2 years ago, when I found myself unable to leave my room for a week. My wife was able to get me to start seeing a therapist and psychiatrist for med management by using a mixture of support and "get in the car, we need to figure this out." Since then I've had good and bad days, but I don't think I've had a day where I've been anxiety free. Last night and today have been the worst for my anxiety that ice ever had. My wife is trying so hard to help and be supportive but at the same time doesn't fully understand what it's like and has her "can't you just get over it" moments, although she has never been mean about it. Anyway I suppose I'm not here for advice as much I am here to try and remember that I'm not alone in this and to find people who aren't just supportive, but relate.

Hi Nibbs welcome to a great forum! Hope you receive the help and support you need. I'm a long time sufferer (28yrs) gad,pa,social phobia, depression! If you ever need advice ect feel free to PM me ok. Are you taking medication for your anxiety,do you have a good doctor to talk to? Its essential to have a good doctor that understands what your going through. Its great that your wife is so supportive of you and it's understandable that she will ocassionaly get frustrated with you because she really just wants to help you get through this tough time! What other symptoms do you have with your anxiety? Do you work ect! Anyway take care and hope to learn more of your story. :)

Scared, thanks for the encouragment, I'll try and answer some of your questions and shed some light on my situation. I currently work for an organization that works with children who have mental health needs and are at risk of being removed from their homes. We work with the kids and families to help them learn a wide variety of skills to help with this. I work part time, which I started doing in response to my anxiety to try to get some relief. The difficulty with my job is that it is extremely high stress and often involves physical aggression on the part of the kids. I don't get hurt everyday but its not exactly rare. Also part of the job is being available literally all the time. I have been working hard to find new work, but don't have a lot of experience on other fields and landed so much as a single job interview. I do take medication, I am on 30 mg of peroxitine (I probably spelled that wrong). And am on thyroid medication (thyroid levels can majorly effect anxiety, and mine doesn't work at all). I see both a family doctor and a psychiatrist for my med management and used to see a counselor, but am having trouble finding one that I feel comfortable with

Yep, sometimes another doc should be tried if you get nowhere with a given pdoc especially if you don't develop a good rapport. Alankay
