Hi everyone,

Ive been looking around the forums for a few weeks now and have found it very helpful and reassuring :-)

I have been suffering from depression since I was about 16 but the anxiety and panic attacks are a new and very scary thing to me.

I am currently on 20mg of prozac, this has helped with my depression in the past, although I never had side effects with it before this time my anxiety rose alot at the start it seems to have calmed now Ive been on it approx 3/4 weeks.

Im also seeing a hypnotherapist which seems to be helping.

I just have a couple of questions maybe someone knows the answers to :-)

How long should I wait for the prozac to work and is it strange I bnever had side effects before but did this time?

Also has anyone tried hypnotherapy, if so was it any good?

Big thanks to anyone for reading :-)

Im okay now, Im in Ireland so its midnight now, I usually start to feel okay around now, my worst time is first thing when I wake up. Had a mini attack this morning as my head was very dizzy and even though Ive had it before it was hard to talk myself down from it.

How are you doing?

Anxiety and panic attacks are horrible. I've been treated for them. Citalopram seemed to help stop my panic attacks. but they need about 2-3 weeks to start working. They are very scary, But from what I have learned, as scary as they are, they cannot harm you. It's just pure adrenaline running through your system. Ask your doctor about citalopram or if you're wanting to stop the heart racing, Propranolol is pretty affective. These two meds are pretty light and non addictive.

Thanks Scots1 Im on prozac now for about 3/4 weeks so Im going to wait and see if it helps, it seems to have helped so far to some degree, so Im hoping it will improve more as time goes on. But if it doesnt work I will definately look into the ones you suggested :-)

That sucks Shane, Im usually awake pretty late 2 or 3, so if you need a chat :-) I lost my job a couple of months ago which seems to have had a part in triggering the anxiety so no real hours to keep to..

Shane is really good at keeping you company during the nights. Really good to have somewhere like this and know people are awake to talk to so not all alone.

Just to say I tried Prozac this time and although has worked well for me in the past, this time it did not work and made me anxious.

I take regular diazepam for anxiety - know it is addictive, but if taken regularly it can keep you relatively calm all day. I was on temazepam before which was great as a quick fix because it made me sleep straightaway and calm down, but it did not last in my body so anxious again before the next dose, whereas diazepam makes you calm but does not give you a quick fix.
