According to this article, some people who have been diagnosed with depression also are afflicted with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). After treatment for OSA was administered, 98% of their patients showed marked improvements in mood.
It appears the patient population from which they are drawing those conclusions were already going to the Sleep Center at the the Hospital anyway, so I don't know how relevant this research is in general, especially taking into account those without sleep problems.
