They will probably discuss them with you.
I only know about Escitalopram, Clomipromine, Citalopram & Sertraline. I think they're the most common.
If you're really struggling then they might suggest a beta blocker &/or diazepam for a while too.
Also ask about being referred for counselling for some added help & support.
Good luck.

I don't now if this is available in the UK or not.

A couple of antidepressants that worked for me are Effexor - I had to stop it because I was having really uncomfortable night sweats - a common side effect, but it worked so well that I put up with waking up drenched every night for 2 years.

I have had great success with Edronax, (reboxitine mesilate) this is the medication that I am currently on. It is an NRI and I was prescribed it for depression and eating disorders rather than anxiety. I believe it kind of exacerbates the symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks because it accelerates the heart and is a bit speedy. It is used to treat ADHD and low motivation depression, where you want to sleep all the time.

I know that Paxetine is another commonly prescribed antidepressant, but I have never been on it (I know people in RL that are), but it is horrible to wean off.

These are the two medications that really worked for me to help me overcome depression. If you want to do some research on psychiatric medications there is a cool website called crazy meds - I don't recommend this for hypochondriacs BTW - which goes into extensive detail on efficiency (including research papers and trials), side effects, chemistry etc. After all, everyone is different, so it is important to listen to your doctor as well as research and listen to other people's opinions.
