Well I've been fighting to stay off meds and finally said enough is enough. Doc put me on 50 mg of zoloft. We'll see how this goes.

I started the same med, same dosage a week ago today. I've not had any side effects really, but it's not kicked in just yet.
My doctor gave me some diazepam to help with the anxiety whilst the medication takes hold, but he did say that it can take 2-3 weeks before noticing a difference.
I hope you get on well with it. I've got my fingers crossed for us.

It has made me really sleepy but other than that, I'm good. My doc gave me ativan to take if I feel panic coming on until the zoloft kicks in. Thanks for the kind words! I hope it works for you and I. I guess we just have to wait and see.

Yeah, we won't know for a few weeks, but at least we're trying something.
The medication is only temporary whilst I'm waiting for CBT.
Are you going to try that also?

Yes my doctor wants me to come back in 4 weeks to see how I'm doing and go from there. Definitely think cbt would help.

I've had a talk with a counselling service today (was referred through my GP). They are going to call me on Tuesday to discuss therapy options. Hopefully your doctor will refer you on too.
I hope the medication works for you :)

CBT is awesome! My CBT is like a friend, she is very honest and keeps me in check!

I started on 50mg of Sertraline (generic zoloft) and on my second day it caused me to have a very quick panic attack about 10 minutes after I took it, so they knocked me down to 25mg to get started. The last time I took it (about 3 years ago) I was up to 150mg/day and took myself off of it cold turkey with no immediate side effects. The last 2 months have made me wish I would've never stopped. Just remember, if you feel better and think you can get off of your meds, it's because the meds are working. Don't do what I did

For what it is worth, I have had huge success on Zoloft. I am on a high dose of 150 mg and no side effects.....except it can effect sleep if taken at night so I take in the am. Good luck to you all just starting out. My Doc is head of the Pharmacological Department at Stanford and has been my "guy" for 20 years now. One thing he did say is that each person reacts differently, so if that doesn't work try another SSRI. I know of people on Paxil who have done well and I keep hearing about Celexa (sp?) which is a real new one I think. Good luck.
