Just found the forum and started to look around and it seems like a good fit. I'm a 35 year old male professional that has had a rough last few years, career, failed relationships, going from no problems to having money issues etc. I fell into drinking heavily because it would make anxiety go away temporarily only to make it come back ten fold.

I had never been suicidal until I tried lexapro. I stopped that, been on Xanax as needed but it turns me into a zombie.

Tried a few therapists and struck out. Some said, I didn't give it enough time others said some therapists are better than others and I'd have to try a few.

Any advice. There are days I can't even drive, function or work. It comes in unexplainably and sometimes I do things to cause it.

Either way, thanks in advance. Pilot1977

Hey there, and welcome. I'm sorry that you are having such a hard time. My advice would be to try another antidepressant, with caution. Go to a psychiatrist, if you can, that's their speciality. Xanax alone helps, but an antidepressant can also help a lot. I'm 37 and have anxiety and physical problems. As far as therapists go, there are a lot more bad ones than good ones, so I would encourage you to have an open mind about it, even if you need some time off. I'm sorry that you feel so stuck. What's your family situation?

I'd recommend hypnosis ! It's amazing it's a psychological exercise that puts your worries into your conscious mind so you can control them more and get ride of them because all they are is a habit which you need to break away from all the best x

Have you considered group therapy? Some find it easier to connect to and learn from others that are going through a similar experience. There are even some day treatment programs (example: 8 am - 5 pm, M-F, 2-4 weeks) that are covered by insurance and provide more intense treatment.
