I have deal with anxiety for years. I take meds which helps some. Wish I could maintain the positive attitude all the time but sometimes life catches up. I was laid off and unemployed for a couple of months. Started a new job that is very demanding. Finances r bad and we'll likely be foreclosed on before long. I do have a loving wife & kids thankfully. Just wish I could relax and slow down.y mind races even when I sleep. Suggestion?

I had an exercise introduced to me that I thought was corny at first but it actually worked... Here goes...

You find a quiet spot to sit or lay down. Close your eyes, take 3 deep breaths slowly. Listen to your heart beat and the sound of your breathing... You relax so much that thoughts drip off your finger tips like water drops... Now your thoughts turn to a beautiful place... The sun is full and a soothing warmth fills your face... You are walking down a country road... The breeze sweeps gently through the tall grass and you see the rich blue sky meet the sweeping grass on the horizon...

You get the idea... It's a relaxation exercise... Native Americans believe in transcendental meditation and I can see why if you master this exercise, your mind becomes very clear and you do get a felling of relaxation. The point is to slow your breathing, slow your heart rate, and focus your thoughts to something calming.

Also, a proven physiological reaction to a long, powerful embrace will slow your heart rate and calm neurological receptors. In other words, hug your wife for long periods. She'll appreciate the attention and you'll both have the benefit being there for each other through this stuff. On that financial stuff... Try listening to Dave Ramsey, cool guy.
