    Inositol help

    Hello, folks....first post here.
I've had anxiety all my life, but recently only seriously thought about the pharmacologic route to get some relief. I'm an RN, so I know a little about psychiatric medication, but really not that much. FRom all the research and general observation/reflection I've done, I think I would classify myself as having GAD. I feel anxious a lot in social situations (think parties where you don't know anyone, trying to make small talk with especially good-looking women, feeling like people will find out I'm professionally incompetent because I cut corners at work and don't know everything...then my mind just races, in all of those situations). I really like who I feel like I am as a person, but I feel like my anxiety makes accessing that person very, very difficult. I've never had anything close to what I've heard a panic attack described as; that sounds horrible.

I'm thinking about asking my PCP for anti-anxiety meds. My main concerns are not wanting to be a zombie and not having any negative sexual side effects. I've been taking +/-15 grams of Inositol a day for about a week with positive results. My girlfriend who has severe ADHD and is familiar with psych meds has also noticed I have a longer fuse; things that annoy me usually set me off in an instant. Although...I've recently read that Inositol significantly lowers testosterone levels. Anyone have any experience with this? From my little bit of research, I think I have low serotonin and dopamine levels, maybe low GABA too. Any recommendations for me? Thanks.

    Hey Dustin,

There are a number of herbal and non-herbal anxiolytics (anti-anxiety medications) that you could try before considering prescription ones, such as SSRIs, but I suggest that you also learn, become proficient in, and employ acupressure tapping / EFT, and progressive muscle relaxation
( http://www.drcoxconsulting.com/managing-stress.html ) using whichever you find most effective. I have no personal experience of high dosage inositol; my information on vitamins and anxiety (except for vitamin D - http://anxietyforum.net/forum/showth...006#post220006 & "Vitamin D3 Cured my Anxiety, Depression, and Panic Disorder", at http://anxietyforum.net/forum/showth...hlight=vitamin ) is at http://your-mental-health.weebly.com/i.html

Give EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. Use the searchbar at www.mercola.com "EFT" & "EFT therapists" and/or see the 13 free videos at www.tapping.com & http://www.emofree.com/freevideos.aspx for PTSD.
There is a version for use in public places, (if anyone asks, you can claim to have a headache, as employ the acupressure massage/tapping on your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind: "Even though I suffer from anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself."

From memory, it was rated at around 4.2 / 5 for effectiveness in treating anxiety.

Hypnosis is merely a heightened state of suggestibility, in which you are better able to communicate with your subconscious mind; view http://myfavoriteinterests.com/hypnosis/ about what it is, and isn't. 85% of people are suggestible to some degree; 15% - 20% highly so, and 15% - 20% aren't much at all, so you could either preferably seek professional hypnotherapy, or, if not an option, hypnosisdownloads.com has ones on confidence with attractive women, and flirting confidence.
Professional advice is to use preferably only 1, or a maximum of 2 at any one time.

You may wish to show your girlfriend my previous post on ADHD, which follows:

ADD/ADHD: I don't recommend any of the powerful, and addictive central nervous system stimulants. An increased incidence of abuse of cocaine, crack cocaine, crystal meth, and other amphetamines has been reported among users of Ritalin, and other amphetamine related medications, which may well predispose them to later abuse street drugs, with all the undesirable consequences involved. The only medications for it not in the stimulant family that I know of are Intuniv, Kapvay, and Strattera, which is structurally related to the antidepressants, and carries risks, and side effects of its own; see www.drugs.com. People in most Western countries often get several times more Omega 6, than Omega 3, when a far healthier ratio is closer to 1:1.5 and that deficiency is thought to be a major factor in ADD/ADHD.

Take at least 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, or the recommended dose of a high quality fish oil daily, like Carlsons or Melrose (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or its FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it! Females may benefit by balancing the DHA, & EPA versions of Omega 3 in fish, or krill oil with ALA flaxseed oil Omega 3, or at least one heaped tablespoonful of ground flaxseed, daily. Dr. Mercola rates "krill oil" much higher than fish oil, because it is far less easily oxidised, so you may want to check this out for yourself through the searchbar at mercola.com Vegetarians & vegans: Google: "Omega 3; algae; supplies" and use it with flaxseed. Eat more in accordance with your "nutritional type":- (free 20 question quiz http://www.naturalhealthcoach.com/tools ) or sign up free at www.mercola.com where a more comprehensive one is, free; do both. Also enter "ADHD" in their searchbar, and check out the articles.

Eliminate, or minimise sugar use, replacing with xylitol, or stevia (health food stores). Avoid artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners, preservatives, & MSG. Minimise highly processed grains, & alcohol use. BOOKS: "The A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. Diet! Whoa, dude. That's a lot of info; thanks! So far what I've seen about inositol lowering T is in studies of women with PCOS caused by excessive T, but none with men. The studies showed a significant T depressing effect. I'm no pharmacist or endocrinologist, so I would have no idea if a man's body would react the same way. I've been taking it for over a week, and haven't really noticed anything in the low T department. It's worth noting I started taking with a T supp (Vintage Boost is the name. The website told me I had to have 25+ posts to post links) before trying inositol. Anyway, I'm laying off the inositol; I've read interesting stuff about Ashwaganda and want to try it.
