I'm editing this post, because there doesn't seem to be a way to 'delete' it.

I haven't posted on here for years now. A lot has changed in that period, and when I read my old posts I don't like what I see. It reminds me of the more anxious me - the me that I hated.

I'd prefer to use this account as a way to start replying to and helping others, rather than it being a reminder of sadder days - not to mention the potential career liability that I feel it is now.

Anxiety is not mental instablity. It's mental distress/discomfort. Medical records are NOT public record. By law they are between you and you doc and unless you burn down some great public building, etc, they will never be subpoenaed. Many GP's(cheaper that pyschiatrists big time) can treat common anxiety. Mine does. Psychologists will be expsensive. As they like to have you in often to talk and talk. For my money start at a good GP and get his opinion on how to treat your anxiety. I believe younger docs have a edge in treating anxiety as it become obvious it's been underdiagnosed and treated for many years a med schools bring docs through psychiatric rotations no more so than before. I have social anxiety too and via ssri's and a beta blocker(in some cases) it responds to medication. Just my thoughts. PM me any time. Alankay.

Hi Dave - I'm fairly new to anxiety and panic attacks and went to various doctors during those first few days because I didn't know what was happening to me. They all came back with the same diagnosis! Not being content with this I googled every symptom I was having (huge mistake) and got myself in a vicious circle of panic/anxiety. I have now accepted what I have and like you do not need doctors/counsellors to get me through it. No disrespect to those who have gone down that route but for me being here is enough - just to talk and express how I'm feeling and any advice/comments anyone can give is much appreciated. That's all you need to do! My panic attacks have more or less gone but I am left with a nervousness about it happening again - like you say 'anxious about being anxious'! Anyway, glad you have found us and just wanted to say 'hi'! xx
