Post Need to get off 8mg Xanax daily

I don't feel I should take it any longer. Been on it for 3 months it was started at that dose. My tolerance is ridiculous. Tips and suggestions for a lasting and mentally EaSy detox greatly appreciated. 2mg 4x daily

Obviously I will be seeing a specialist but I would like some advice

Having come off Ativan successfully years ago(with my psychiatrists' guidance) the method is simple. Taper down SLOWLY. No joke, started at 8mg daily? Wow. That's a high dose but anyway, taper slowly. DO NOT GO COLD TURKEY. You may feel tense/jumpy and nervous with each dose drop but that's OK. Drop 1/2 mg per dose and go for AT LEAST a week with that dose, then drop another 1/2 mg per dose and go at least a week. Trouble sleeping? Go with the higher former dose just at night until you adjust to that new dose. Continue to taper slowly if you get stuck at a given dose just hold off for a while longer and resume the gradual reduction when you feel better. But whatever you do don't just stop at the high dose. Much, much safer and more comfortable to slowly taper off. I speak from experience! I was not bitter about having to taper off ativan. I needed it when I needed it to control hideous panic until I could get better educated about what anxiety is, meds, relaxation, deep breathing, exercise and how to calm myself and use valium(instead of the stronger, shorter acting ativan) ONLY occasionally. Indeed, see a dr. on how to taper off it. Write yourself down a schedule so there's no mistakes and taper off 1/2 mg per dose per week or slower if needed. That's what I'd do anyway.
