Alan Moon played his first gig at the age of 10 years old, in the music room at St Anne’s Catholic Primary in Manurewa. The nuns overheard him playing a piano rendition of a song he had heard on the radio the previous evening.

Despite being urged to take lessons, he didn’t stick with them, instead becoming a self-taught player and reader. With his keyboard and arranging skills he became a mainstay of top groups from the late 1960s, including Sons & Lovers, Littlejohn, BLERTA, Father Time, Fragments of Time and a later version of Think.
