It's definitely a negative kind of avoidance but, sadly, it's becoming so commonplace now. The longer this drags on, the more I fear regarding the communication skills of the newer generations.

    -Technology 3-

Technology always changed the opportunities available to us and nowadays it mostly affect our younger generation. When I was a kid, places like fast food restaurants were mostly hiring youths and young adults. The minimum wage jobs were usually seen as the stepping stones for the younger generation to gain valuable experience while also making some money on to side.

Nowadays, our world is changing so rapidly that automation is taking over a fair number of jobs. These jobs were normally taken by the younger generation but, as automation slowly become more widespread, such opportunities are becoming fewer and fewer. Suddenly, those who need experience the most to get further in life find themselves struggling to get the ball rolling with the first job.

We have all encountered the situation where workplaces hire people with experience but people need to work so they gain the experience. Some people might suggest going to college or university but student loans become such a huge issue and the opportunities that normally help students pay off loans are taken over by automation.

It's becoming clear that technology is changing the direction of where society is heading. Manual jobs or jobs that don't require any additional education than what you gain from high school are steadily disappearing. Our youths and young adults are facing unprecedented challenges regarding their future and the ever changing technology won't make their adaptability any easier.

I doubt we are going in good direction. you can not avoid technology but that's true, it pushes people apart. Even my grandchild text me when she needs something or just say hi.
I do not envy young people who just finished school and are looking for jobs. The market is extremely difficult.

    Self Absorbed Stupid Species

It's a double edge sword from my understanding and tendencies. On many fronts technology has opened up our understanding, yet clearly as a species we just seem unable to use tech for our own advancement. The achievements that are taught to our young are measured in the very ways that are our undoing. Tech is used for comfort. Comfort is used for pacification. Pacification is used for control. We have actually passed the tipping point on so many lvls that the essence of what has been driving our technology now relys on tech to ease our discomfort whilst at that same time it expands our species in a space not meant to sustain so many.

The potential for tech to coexist with nature and enhance our living is great yet the reason most western consumer nations are not doing so, is more to do with their psych which I think is best summed up as a; 'Self Absorbed Stupid Species.'

    BLOG

Yes I include myself in this pic. None of us are left unaffected. Don't take it personally. Phones are at the top of the list. This topic of course highlights my favorite quote and led my to an interesting blog on the use of mobile phones:

Was Einstein right? Physicist once said he feared that technology would surpass human interaction?

I'm a sci/fi fan but not like any of those atypical books that are so easy to know what happens before you read. Take out all the warring factions, sex and like wise drama and what's left? Exactly ... not much left to the human imagination these days. Sci-Fi has become a bit of a joke. Sad but true as far as I can see. We seem less interested in thinking for ourselves and looking to technology for everything else!

Fact is we are being lied to ... our young one's are being lies to. (we are also being lead ... lead in a way that stops us from thinking for ourselves) Contrary to popular belief/indoctrination - there IS enough food in the world to feed everyone. (although lacking in substance and somewhat modified/adulterated) We have the technology to improve the food yet we do not ... only for the deserving few. We have the technology to ensure everyone has clean water and so on. Religion and politics ensures the walls stay up, keep us divided and dictates each individuals lvl of comfort according to it's system of measurement/values which if course is all kept inline using state of the art tech.

Alas they will on occasion do a homeless run, put out a world hunger add and so on ... just to be seen as doing the right thing. All that amounts to is a quick walk around the block handing our toxic food and telling the homeless all they need do is get a J-O-B ... as for the millions of famine photos ... it pretty much equates to the same thing all spun together with highly marketed techniques ... to keep peoples indoctrinated beliefs in check. They have wonderful tech for that. All that pretentious BS you watch on youtube ... they pretty much do the same thing. Be sure to like and subscribe now. Be honest ... we all lap it up. It shows in our comments. Love and light to you all ... lol the barrel effect D. We are trully a $@$!ed species getting sicker by the hour.

    Another sales pitch of tech:
Whilst on one hand technology opened the flood gates of communications and brought together a wealth of cultures and knowledge (how romantic) that same tech is being used to take all their possessions not to mention exploit their resources and people. We have had the tech to go way beyond the moon and mars yet we have not? We have had the tech to completely heal this planet yet we continue to destroy it?

Another fact ... the idea of automation in a Utopian society is that we can pursue our more engaging interests. Ones that keep those happy chemicals flowing and let us coexist in a non violently society. Where we as individuals decide what it is that we would like to do ... not someone else telling us what we should do. Automation is something that we could not really do without given population we now have. There are many groups that would love nothing but to see those below them living automated lives doing mundane tasks for the rest of their lives. Individuals can mix and mingle so the psyc effects is not so much a side effect of automation but more to do with the system controlling the tech. Not the tech itself. Understanding that goes right to the snakes head. Listed below.

Politics, Religion, Nationalism, Patriotism AKA Power & Control ... As long as our technology is governed by these destructive groups/forces, we shall not only continue to breed one generation of idiots after the other - our species will soon be extinct and for however long it take to reach our end - billions and billions more will live very painful lives just so those above them can go out as comfortably as they can. Those groups will ensure it stays that way.

These deceptive forces rely on mall adjusted communities, sickness, disease and so forth ... it's what keeps their world and status spinning. The create the chaos that makes their world.

Thankfully there is another way - Disconnect! Reject your education and start unlearning. Keep your faith ... just change the focal point to something not so destructive.

What's the next topic Mr Rick ... appreciate the time and effort you take to write about this stuff.

I don't think it's the direction that's the problem. It's the rate at which progress is happening. It's almost like rushing kids to be adults and, as a result, they don't develop many things that are valuable to their growth. As for the current market, it's one that isn't favorable to those who think having decent education will get them a career they can rely upon. At the same time, it offers so many opportunities that even a youth can change the world. We are just living in such a different world now compared to the last few decades.

It's true there are lots of problems with our world but that has been the case since the birth of civilization. After all, we humans haven't changed and it's only technology that has been improved over the millenniums. A lot of work is needed for us to advance to a better state of society but that will take time. While it does look bad now, I do believe that we can turn things around. If history taught us anything, it's that the unpredictable can take place without any warning. Just as things can degenerate further, good things can happen. I have a feeling that more and more young adults are waking up to recognize the situation they're in.

Indeed, I cannot imagine anyone who have used a computer regularly pulling themselves away for extended amount of time unless they can't help it.

Thanks! I just enjoying writing because our minds get clogged by so much information. It's nice to rant or get stuff out before my brain overloads.

And it's nature that is responsible for famine and hunger. Crop diseases and extreme weather devastate local farms. Tech allows us to overcome these previously insurmountable obstacles by allowing us to plan and farm better.

There's also not a shred of real evidence that suggests the younger generation is more self-absorbed or less happy than others were. If anything has affected them, though, it's your generation's over-breeding, not their iPhones. You want to see what's really the problem, don't look at the computer, look at your kids.

Your post contains more hysterical paranoia than fact-based argument. Still, that explains why you're on an anxiety forum and not working at a research lab somewhere.
Everyone can express their thoughts here. This isn't anything serious and just a friendly discussion of whatever. As for the issues you mentioned, they are far too complicated for most of us to fully understand. We just talk about our views and that's it.

    -Addiction-

When we hear the word addiction, there are a number of different scenarios that might cross our mind. One of the most obvious one seems to be a homeless person who lost everything due to his or her drug habits. Another scenario might be a person who goes to the casino often and lost most, if not all, of his or her savings believing he or she will win it all back one day. Of course, there are other addictions involving shoplifting, alcohol and numerous other things that can get us hooked.

Addiction isn't always easy to overcome and usually end poorly for the victims and their families. If an addiction gets worse enough, even society as a whole doesn't want to deal with the victim. Yet, we mustn't forget that, oftentimes, the victims were once ordinary people no different from any of us. They just made a poor judgement one day, got hooked and couldn't ever look back. For some of them, addiction was supposed to serve as an escape for the bad things happening in their life.

To make it worse, we often have what we normally perceive as good things that can also make us addicted. For instance, some pain killers and cold medicines contain components that are very addictive. We might be taking these for a good reason initially but we eventually grow reliant on them. It seems like danger is everywhere and we only need a few missteps and we can fall into the trap without an exit in sight. Meanwhile, our society promotes a certain addiction but it isn't even perceived as one by most people.

In our society, we are bombarded by ads telling us what we should buy and how we should live our lives. These ads are pushing us towards an addictive activity called shopping. It's true that a few people do go over the top when it comes to shopping but majority of the people in Canada and the USA are caught up in buying expensive things they don't need. This is getting so bad that most households accumulate debts they might never pay off. Instead of being seen as an addiction, we call it a norm nowadays.
