not to put a negative attitude toward meds, but have any of you considered trying to find either a natural-pathic doctor or any other medical alternatives? I personally found that one can address certain illnesses just by simply making lifestyle changes (major ones). For instance; cutting out alcohol, tobacco, high stress, high doses of sugar and caffeine. Also on top of that get rest, exercise, nutritious meals, drink water, meditate, prayer. You may be too used to meds working for you but trust me, all the things I named have zero side effects. Peace!

Zero side effects! Now that's worth the effort when you consider how one chemical leads to another in order to combats such effects. Sadly, I believe today's culture has an adverse reaction to any kind of effort at all.

The latter is a little hard to take on board, however your point is quite motivational silver lining. You really do seem to live up to your name.

So glad you have hit these boards. Your encouragement is without a doubt well received.

Yeah can we just go easy on the non-med attitude? There are people out there who are suffering intensely and I think suggesting medication is unnecessary probably just makes them feel worse. Shame is a big issue for people with mental illnesses and we don't need more of it by suggesting we aren't putting in enough effort. Personally I've recieved enough of that attitude from my parents already!

Ponder - You haven't lived a sheltered life so you know there are people everywhere who drink excessively, smoke weed, smoke meth, shoot up heroin etc etc. Not to mention addictions to things like porn, ugh. The people on this forum are trying hard to do the right thing and take medication from their doctors rather than self-medicating with stuff like alcohol. We've had this discussion before

gypsylee - Definitely follow your doctor however just consider that sometimes you may need to seek other alternatives. Doctors are trained and schooled to treat symptoms in the western world of medicine. I consider both sides. Sometimes treating the symptoms is very necessary to feel better, however sometimes (most times) one should dig deeper and find the ROOT of the problem rather than just treat the symptoms. Think of pain meds, very necessary for someone say recovering from a horrible accident. Contrast to that, someone suffering from say a back problem caused from poor posture, bad form when lifting, non-active lifestyle, over stress, dehydration, etc, etc.. Honestly, those individuals need to find their root problem rather than take the easy way out and just ingest pills to dull the pain temporarily. Some, I repeat (SOME) psych meds situations can be looked at similarly. That's my input on the subject. Main thing is to educate yourself on every aspect of your own problem and the human body for optimal results.

Buspirone works okay for anxiety but it's not great. It has a short half-life so it wears off. You need to take it 2-3 times per day but it is helpful.

Actually, if I were to go back on meds, this would be one of them. But yes, that was becoming a problem for me remembering to actually take it twice a day.

Reviving an old thread, but I just started Buspirone, and I did get instant help. 15mg twice per day. It did make me loopy and then tired after I took it, but I'd rather have that then life stopping anxiety. I only took half a dose this morning, since I am still getting used to the drug and I don't need to be foggy at work, and it it only worked about half as well. So I will stick to full doses from now on.
