    Medication Issues

I take 20mg of citalopram everyday. I take Valium/Diazepam when i have a major attack. Knowing i have valium in my bag just incase i have an anxiety attack keeps me at work. Problem is... i only have one pill left and the doctor is refusing to give me more as it is a very addictive drug. The doctor knows i only take one when i REALLY need it... which is usually around once every 2 weeks at work. Now that i only have one left i keep panicking because i do not have a back-up now. I will eventually stop being able to go to work as i will be too anxious to leave the house. Valium is the only thing that helps.
I have seen Councillors, nutritionists (herbal remedies) and therapists. I am currently on my 8th session of hypnotherapy... seems like theres nothing else that can help

You may have better luck visiting a private psychiatrist. They aren't always cheap, but they'll be more willing to prescribe a few benzos for occasional use.

Sadly most regular doctors won't change their minds once they've decided against prescribing benzos.

If you need it, you need it. I agree with the previous post saying to go to a psychiatrist who is specialised in this sort of thing. Just a quick question, do you currently have another therapy plan then medication?

Oh Yazzy is in England , you guys have crazy doctors, some of them came here. My gp will not give me script for benzo. My psychiatrist does. I use ativan similar to xanax very seldom. Once in a few months maybe.
I am on small dose of Clonazepam and doing great.

    Yazzy,

I agree with seeking help from a private psychiatrist. But be careful... these meds are very addicting. And nobody ever gets hooked on them intentionally.

If you are interested in faith based solutions, let me know and I can share with you what I have seen work.

    Many blessings,
    Vince

    Hi Yazzy

How long have you been taking Citalopram?

If it's longer than 6 months, it may be worth talking to your GP about transferring to sertraline, if you find an effective SSRI (that works for you), it should remove the requirement for the benzo.

Your doctor may want to consider increasing your citalopram initially (20mg is pretty low to have an anxiolytic effect) but SSRI are far safer as a longer term medication than diazepam.

(I am not the benzo police btw.)

    Hello, thanks for your reply.

I've been on citalopram for about a year now. I'm not even sure If it makes a difference to be honest. All I know is that Diazepam works. I'd rather take one of those once in a while then lose my job. I would only take one if I REALLY need it

Yeah doctors here are very strict about handing out Diazepam. It would be nice to have a back up. I stress myself out even more knowing there's nothing to help me stay at work x

Never thought of a psychiatrist... I didn't think they specialised in this kind of thing? Well I'm currently doing hypnotherapy... I'm on my 8th session... Doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I've been to see councillors etc. Nothing has worked out yet. X
