Went to see a psychiatrist today:)) Advice?

Hey guys, so today I went to see a psychiatrist for the first time and I told her about all my fears and insecurities especially my fear of schizophrenia. I told her my fear of schizophrenia at least 5 different times and each and every time she told me I don't have it,then she went on to prescribe Wellbutrin and klonopin she told me to try this and she'll see me in 1 month. I'm just asking u guys if I can trust her opinion she didn't run any test for schizophrenia so I'm iffy if she called that right. What do you guys think? Have any of u been on these meds before? Do they help with panic or fear? Thank you )

I saw a therapist yesterday and i brought up schizophrenia in passing, she just laughed and said, dont worrt you dont have that. No experience on those meds but do they give u instant relief or take time to kick in? Im on a very low dosage of zoloft, 25mg. They said itll take about 2 weeks to kick in so im trying to hang in there.

Socaltouch14 the medication is a kick in kind of medication, the klonopin should take 2 weeks to kick. As for the Wellbutrin should take a little while. I'm hesitant about any drugs and I told my therapist about that but she said my anxiety was to severe that she needs me to get out of my mind a bit. I'm going to have to hang in there until It kicks in. I hope you get better as well anxiety seriously sucks

I think it's very difficult for even the best psychiatrists to do a good job of diagnosing which disorder a person with mental illness has.

There is no "test" for that and I'm sure anxiety is your core issue and I'd give those meds a try. You're anxious and fixated on the possibility of schizophrenia for whatever reason and that's just a form of anxiety. Treat the anxiety not the fixation. You are not schizophrenic as I'm very sure a pdoc would have an easy time spotting that. "Fear of" = anxiety basically. Alankay

I've been prescribed Wellbutrin as a temporary med while my psych switched to a new building and what not. I'm noticed that on some days it's easier to get up and do stuff cuz my depression isn't holding me down.. but my anxiety is terrible. I already have bad anxiety, and this med makes it worse.. but if I stop taking it, my depression will be so overwhelming. Also, when I had told my new therapist that my psych prescribed me that, he told me right away that it's a horrible med to use for anxiety seeing as it is a stimulant. Although the klonopin will have a slight sedative effect, I think the wellbutrin will make your anxiety worse..since my med was paired with prazosin (blood pressure med) and it does nothing for me. It also makes my morning anxiety flare bad, but I don't have my prazosin anymore. So it's just bad now.

I think anyone who sees a psychiatrist to get an opinion but wants a second opinion has the right to get a second opinion from another psychiatrist. It's your life we're talking about, after all.

    Absolutely!

Psychiatrists are way way overrated! People give them more power than they should really have and then of course there is a huge percentage of that lot with even bigger Egos. They miss diagnose us much as GPs do and are as complacent. They too love quick fixes! Just because they have a certificate and go by the name of doctor does not mean they know what it best. Those questionable certifications with today's administration practices and high demand make for a very messy play ground.

You need more than two opinions, and you also need more than three alternatives. Anyone doctor the claims this or that or disrespects your own input ... Drop them like a bag of shit and move on. It's so easy to get hooked on doctors and diagnosis ... like selling candy to a child these days.

You can teach yourself more online than most doctors care to admit .. in fact, doctors now spend most of their appointments scoffing at patients instead of listening to them. Just glean, research, check, recheck and experiment for yourself. Never take what a doctor says as gospel.

Many people have died, doing just that.

Learn from personal experience - Try it, and then you can answer your own questions better than any specialist on the planet!
