    Hi there:
I am new here...but I wanted some opinions.
I have been on Xanax for two years and haven't had any anxiety attacks.well the other day I had one and continued having them so I went to my Psychiatrist, she put me on lorazapam...isn't that a weaker drug then xanax??? I am so upset about this I want to have a drug I can take when I have an anxiety attack that will help take it away...but I feel like she betrayed me and gave me a drug that will help even less...please if anyone has advice for me let me know.....

Being on Xanax for so many years may caused you to slowly develope a tolerence for it. In other words, it isn't as effective at combating your anxiety anymore.

Your psychatrist may have switched you to a different pill because of this. Just because the medication is less potent than Xanax doesn't mean it won't work, seeing as it's a new medication that your body hasn't become tolerent of yet. Therefore, it may actually be more effective than Xanax to you now.
