according to a site i came across via google, these benzodiazepines are apparently the best meds for GAD.
just wondering if any of you have been on this type of meds and what it was like?

I found that i could face things just knowing i had a benzo if needed . Never took it but just the though there was something there if needed gave me the strength to push past things .
I'm pretty similar. It sort of become a habit to keep one in my wallet. It seems harmless, so I leave it be.

Just knowing that something is there, if it all goes frightfully wrong, can often give enough comfort to you so that you don't need it, or use it far less.
Effective meds, but that can be it's downfall. On a once in a while basis, they can be a very effective tool in the toolbox :)

maybe it's best if i stay away from these then. as an easy option they sound ideal but maybe they are just too easy. i've been on fluoxetine and citalopram and a few others. one has been effective for a period of time, but i can't remember which! i'm sure fluoxetine made me so angry i had to stop taking them. scared to try them again incase it was those. i've been on that many different ones i don't know which is which!
thanx for your replies :)

Yeah Diazepam (Valium) is a type of benzo.
You hear people mention drugs like Xanax, Valium, Lorazepam a lot. These are all the same family of medicines. :)
Do you find the Diazepam helpful?

Temporarily! Helped me relax and sleep better but was making my head feel fuzzy so stopped. Only take now when I'm overly anxious (like today) but don't take on daily or even a weekly basis. Determined to stay med free. xx

I take Lexotan (Bromazepam) like once or twice a week when needed. Sometimes I manage to stay off it for more than a week. I take only .75mg and it seems to work pretty fast. But as you know, it's supposed to be addictive, and when it wears off the next day, I sometimes get tightness in chest and breathlessness. Not sure if it's becos of the drug withdrawal or just anxiety rebounding.
Yes, I always have one tablet in my wallet too. It's reassuring but as with any crutch, it's still a crutch. I heard someone mentioning Rescue Remedy as a natural alternative to having something in your pocket to reach for in moments of SOS. It's still a crutch but at least it's natural--one step forward. Anyone has any experience using RR?
