I went on Zoloft at the end of December. This is my first time going on a SSRI. I started at 50mg then went up to 100mg and now back down to 50 mg again. I feel like crap, I'm tired, depressed, anxious, Im gaining weight and I have no motivation to do anything. I thinking about going off of them, I dont know what to do, I just want to feel happy.

i tried zoloft, but had horrible headaches and even more depression. i got off of them after a week. my doc then put me on celexa. it works ok i guess. i have been on it for almost a month now. im also on seroquel for sleep. i get headaches everyday but i think this time it might just be my anxiety tiring me out.

Girl, all ssri's don't work the same for all(zolft is an ssri). If you've gotten no benefits from the 100mg dose and gave it a long enough trial, ask about another med. They will want to try another ssri like celexa(pretty good med) or fluoxetine(also good). But really if you've not had ANY benefit from zoloft try Effexor(an SNRI) which is known to really get folks out of deep funks. Just ask your doc. Many docs will insist on a trial of another ssri before going with an SNRI(Effexor) but some will let you go with Effexor which I think will get your energy back going and improve your mood. In any case they will try another SSRI or Effexor before going with a TCA or Wellbutrin. PM me any time. Alankay

Don't worry too much about it. You'll get there. I know it's a rough process, but it's a lot of trial and error and times. Then all of a sudden, you find something that works and it starts to become smooth sailing again, and you have the energy and enthusiasm to tackle some root issues, or get life back on track.

We're lucky there days, in the sense that not only are there so many different types of SSRI's, but also so many others, as alan mentioned.

SSRI's didn't work for me. I think the protocol is to try two of one type, before moving onto another. Sure enough, the new type hit the spot, and I felt the relief. It was just a couple of inconvenient months.

It's been a few months now, which is usually the recommended time to give an AD. If you feel it isn't for you, by all means, tell your doctor, I doubt they'll be too bothered about trying something different. There are so many, that theres no point staying on something for too long if it isn't helping.

It all depends on what neurotransmitters aren't quite as effective, so some of it is just guess work, until we hit the right ones.

I hope it all sorts out :)

Girlnextdoor, Since your not a psychiatrist, you don't have enough knowledge and expertise about Zoloft to make the decision to go off it. That choice should be made by both your doctor and yourself. You have to work with your doctor as a team and not make this sort of medical decision all by yourself.
