It's the most commonly prescribed ssri med which is the first med type to try. It might have some sides but make you feel better if you give it a fair trial.

Well without a more detailed description of what you are going throught it's hard to give you advice about a specific med but I have read that many people have a reasonably good response to sertraline. Bottom line is if you trust your doctor and your symptoms are disruptive enough you feel you need extra help getting through this it's worth giving it a try. Also keep in mind that feeling a bit anxious about starting a new medication is completly normal especially when you are already on edge. Don't feel bad asking your doctor for additional information on what they have prescribed you, how it works and what side effects are more common. Often being well informed eases the discomfort of starting on new medication.

i was terrified to start sertraline! i have been taking it for months and months now and i believe it is helping :) it doesnt perform complete miracles but overall it has made me feel better. Some times i feel a little too good :) When you start taking it you may feel sick, throw up, not be able to eat and get really really hot but after a week or two those effects will go away and you will feel back to normal! it takes a little while to kick in but i believe it is worth it! if you feel bad in the beginning just tell yourself it will go away because it will!

good luck!
