So ivebhad anxiety for several years and didnt know what it was. It got to the point that i couldnt even drive before someone mentioned it could be anxiety. My dr put me on zoloft and that seemed to do the trick but it made me gain a ton of weight. I work at a school and most of my issues were work related so when i was off for the summer i just stopped taking it and was fine and actually dropped 25lbs. When i started back to school it was even worse and progressed to full fledged panic attacks so i went back to the dr but founf out i couldn see him anymore (he is a pediatrician amd im 22 but ive been seeig him my whole life) so i had to find a new dr which only added to the problem. My new dr put me on celexa because i didnt want zoloft and also gave me ativan. At first i was takin the ativan to prevent attacks until the celexa got into my system then i was to take it only when i had an attack and its usually worked but takes almost 30 mins to kick in which is kind like hell if i take it when it first starts.

Then recently i had an attack that lasted almost a whole day and i even had to leave work because of it and i took four ativan and it didnt help at all. so i went back and he upped my celexa and gave me xanax until the celexa kicks in. I LOVE the xanax. I only take ot when im having an attack and o can acually feel it work! My anxiety just melts away and i actually feel good! And it worked sp quickly it was like a miracle relief i didnt know i could have. The ativan always stopped my physical symptoms but my brain still went 100 miles an hour and though i wasnt having an attack my 'anxiety' in my brian never went away. But the xanax just relaxes me and gives me some peace in my head ive never experienced before! My dr plans to put me back on ativan but id much rather stay om xanax, i know it doesnt last as long, but im more worried about how fast ot gives me relief from an attack because thats what effects me the most. I know how addicting it is but im not too worried about that i only need it maybe 3 times a week and i just take one or two .5mg depending on tje severity of the attack. Im super nervous about this decisiom though because my dr recommended going back to ativan. So any input would be appreciated, sorry it got so long...

Ativan and Xanax are both benzos and everybody reacts differently to different meds. I'm not sure why, but Ativan is a very popular drug with most docs (I take it) and hospitals use it a lot. I think it's because it works fairly quick and gets out of your system pretty quick. I would Google both meds to educate yourself and have a talk with your doc, explaining that the Xanax works much better for you. Considering many doctors are afraid to prescribe benzos of any kind you are very lucky.
