how many of you get light headed when anxious? I do and it freaks me out!! I take my blood pressure often when I feel like his. This is not a cardiac problem this is an anxiety problem for me!!

Light headedness is not dizzy or veretigo-- I don't feel the world is spinning, no inner ear problems, no blood pressure problems (I am on meds and take a lot of daily blood pressures when light headed-- no high blood pressure!).\

If you are light headed-- what can i do? deep breathing??

thanks in advance!!

Hello, yes i get light headed too ,i feel like im walking on cotton wool at times. Im sure its because of the way i breathe which is shallow and fast. I try and do some deep breathing exercises ,that seems to help a bit. I hope this is some help to you. cheers.

Hello, I'm not sure what it is that I'm feeling in my head.....Let me try to explain it, I will somtimes just be sitting and watching TV when all of a sudden this weird head sensation comes over me. It feels like something is about to pop but doesn't.... it will loosen up in about 20 - 30 secs and then I'll get my anxiety...knots in my stomach, shooting pains in head, heart racing and sweating. When this happens I always feel like I might die from a brain aneurysm. Lately I've notice this happening more and more. I also know I'm a Hypochondriac which causes alot of my anxiety. Could it really be anxiety or do I really have something going wrong with my brain? Does anyone else have these weird head sensations???? I would like to know how you handle it? I feel I can't go to the doctors because I don't have a headache and they will just brush me off. Even though I have other symptoms that could be a brain Aneurysm....dizziness/off balance, stiff neck. I would appreciate any help, I'm new to this fourm and look forward to everyones kind words. Cheers, Colin

Sounds like classic anxiety to me. Your mind is playing tricks on you--- when this happens take a deep breath and hold it, exhale slowly-- do this 10 times then go do something enjoyable-anything to keep your mind busy but off your symptoms. Try it!

I have strange head feelings as well. Almost like a tightness and floating sense. It is bothersome and scary, but its just like a head rush and will and does subside soon after it starts. This definately can jump start anxiety for me but I try to let it go as just a weird feeling and go on with my business. Keeping myself occupied with something else really seems to help me, not immediately like we would all like, but steadily and surely it does.

Hey Guys, When I get light headed i do circular breathing just to get things under control. Breath in for 2 or 3 counts, holds for 2 or 3 counts, out for 2 or 3 counts, then hold for 2 or 3 counts then repeat a few times. The counting helps to focus your mind and the breathing gets the oxygen and co2 levels right again. I also reassure myself that I won't faint or pass out as it has happened hundreds of times before with no problems.

Colin, you have to remember that anxiety was designed to help us back in prehistoric days. If you walked around a corner and there in front of you was a sabre toothed tiger you had 3 options, fright, flight of fight. This meant you froze and were eaten, ran like the wind and escaped or stood your ground and brought home dinner for the family if you were lucky. Either way, adrenalin is released in large volumes, your muscles would tense and blood pressure and heart rate increased readying you body for action. Problem is on the couch there is no threat, just your mind trying to tell you there is one in the from of anxiety. I find it helpfull to ask myself some questions. What am I perceiveing as a threat, what is the likelyhood of it happening, what is the evidence to support my theory, am i actually in danger or sick. Usually I find myself answering no's to all the questions and my anxiety will dissapear. Also if it happens again take note of what program you were watching. I also never jump on Google and try and self diagnose any more as it is never helpfull.

Good luck with it

i dont know about you but i am highly stressed and i know that when i am happy and everything is going good i am not unbalanced / lightheaded but i am constantly that way other wise. i had asked a doctor about it once and he told me that it was my serotonin in my brain that caused this. you can help it by getting suffecient sleep. like going to bed at the same time each night and waking up and the same times etc. he also prescribed me some lexapro which i havent taken at all. lol scared of meds. well good luck if something works for you let me know but i would rather deal with that instead of skipped heart beats or double beats. or anything else for that matter

Hi mama....

I have started taking Lexapro again for the second time, as I had been off of it for about 1.5 years. I am a bit chicken when it comes to meds as well, but I can tell you it certainly worked for me last time. (When I say I just started again, I mean 2 days ago.) I found it had very little side effects, save one rather annoying thing: I gained 15 lbs that I never really did shake. (I did the stupid thing and started working out in order to lose weight. I gained it.....in muscle, but still - the numbers went the wrong way!) Anyway, I thought I would mention this because I was really afraid to take Lexapro myself, and found it to be rather easy, and it did work.
