View Full Version : Hi I am new to this thought I would take a risk

My problem is that I check alot particularly when under more stress. I check the taps in the bathroom, my car doors and windows when leaving the car etc, it seems to be getting worse so i thought i would investigate a self help group, for suggestions etc.

Thanks for the reply, I fear the worse If I don't check, I'm thinking that whatever I am going to do will turn out better If I check first. I appreciate your suggestion, It has helped me already, I will now attempt to not check and see how it goes.

I have gone through periods of "checking" myself and it also occurs when I am more anxious. My own non-professional opinion is that once you address the underlying anxiety the compulsion to check will lessen. It's okay to check as long as it's not out of proportion or excessive like it now is (double checking can sometimes keep your house safe, right?)
anxiety and fear is not a fun thing to experience, I know. I am confident that if you keep searching, reading, asking questions, and asking for help you'll get the answers. Keep us posted.
