Evening,

Well, I am new to this forum. However, at the age of 33, I experienced my first anxiety/panic at midday today.

I can honestly say it is the worst experience of my life - so far. I have had a build of anxious feelings over the last couple of months. Feeling jittery, feeling extremely emotional, paranoia, suicidal thoughts...I'm sure you can guess the rest. However, it must of came to a head today. Fortunately, I was at home as I had a day off work and my mom calmed me down. The attack must have only lasted a couple of minutes, but, at 20:25 tonight, I am still feeling slight palpitations, and my head is still feeling like it is buzzing.

Are these couple of symptoms still "normal" so many hours later? I apologise if this has previoulsy been asked before, but I desperately needed to know for my own sanity.

I saw my doctor, a couple of weeks ago, who is directing me to some sort of counsellor, as he is reluctant to prescribe any medication - what are peoples thoughts on this?

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to any replies.

Vickie

In my experience those symptoms are normal at any point during a period of heightened anxiety, regardless of panic. I went through something with those symptoms that lasted at least a couple full days. Eventually I was put on some medicine that helped the symptoms (beta blockers, benzos, ssri). Honestly I was surprised that the human body could be on such a constant state of alert. Imagine what a soldier in battle must feel like to develop PTSD. It is probably pretty terrifying, although not to diminish what any of us suffer on this forum. Also, take comfort in knowing that many people have panic attacks that last much, much longer than a couple of minutes. We are both fortunate that way. Here's hoping you are finding some relief.

Hi iv been havin panic attacks 4 a year nw and those symptoms u were still feeling are normal iv had panic attacks that have literally knocked me off my feet 4 a couple of weeks at a time!! U need 2 try n break the mental cycle and I know its easier said than done I'm on beta blocker 4 the palpitations but its tryin 2 sort what's goin on in your head that's the issue. My panic attacks left me feelin completely isolated from my family and everything else, I couldn't connect with anything even my children and even my own home felt unfamiliar. I thought I woz goin crazy and woz terrified of havin more of them which of course brought on more, you will b ok and you can get thro it you should ask 4 beta blockers thy r not addictive at all and thy stop the fast beatin of the heart which will help u 2 concentrate on keepin ur mind calm u have 2 push the doctors 2 take u serious, paramedics had 2 come 2 my house 4 times b4 doctors took me seriously. Tk care.

Hello

Yes, i get your symtoms. I also find it difficult to eat and drink. My first attact was 5 years ago and I thought that I was over it for ever until I recently had a a few bad things happen in my life and they all started again.. I feel for anyone that has to live this way. I am now on medication again and it helps with the heart palpatations so at least I'm not waking up in the middle of the night with panic attacks. I am now 35, and I am finding it such a battle. I generally need to go on medication to get back on with normal life again. When it happened for the first time 5 years ago I just thought I was going mad...I didn't even know what was happening to me. I felt so out of control and not myself at all. At least now I know what it is..

Hope you get some relief soon.
