I have taken the starter pack - 35 days - of lamictal, and today my prescriber wrote me a script for lamictal. My prescriber insists that the generic is no good, and only to use the brand name. When I went to fill it, it was over $190 with insurance! I have always used generics of everything and have never had a problem. Anyone have any experiences with lamictal or lamotrigine? Is there something specific to this drug that makes the generic no good?

I saw a psychiatrist 2 weeks ago and he said this about generics (this is only his opinion, I don't know if it is a fact):
The FDA doesn't regulate the ingredients in generic medications as strictly as they do in brand name medications. Therefore, a generic may have more or less or the same amount of active ingredients as a brand name medication.
Even though he said that, I still take generics because they are way cheaper and I haven't had any problems.
Good luck!
